@cjmyers513 Any 5V supply that can deliver greater than or equal to 2.5A will be fine. Phone chargers are not recommended as they may not provide a regulated 5V so as soon as you power up, the voltage collapses.

@cjmyers513 As you are running a Pi zero with peripherals, you might get away with 2A. But 0.7A - it will boot then anything could happen. Most probably, the charger will get hot.

Now I’m really confused. Got a new power supply. Official 2.5 amp. Still no game pads detected. I tried reformatting the sd card and reinstalling retro pie. I still also see the color box for a sec on start up. Please help.

@cjmyers513 What are you connecting and how are you connecting?

What happens when you enter lsusb at the terminal? Does the controller show up?

If it doesn't, then check your connections.

If it does, the next thing I would try would be running jstest/dev/input/js0at the terminal to see if Linux is seeing the controller key presses.

I have read that the zero does not play well with hubs. I have also read about people trying multiple hubs before finding that Belkin works. Silly question, but you're sure you're not plugging power into data and data into power? You can power the Zero off either port but only the data port will work with a USB device.

Finally, can you just plug in a keyboard and see if that is detected?

yeah, it's not recognizing anything at all. i thought the hub pictured above was a powered hub. the usb plugs right into that and it all goes into the usb terminal. i tried plugging the power right into the power port too and the usb into the usb terminal and still the same. I just don't know why it worked for an hour or so then just stopped. could it be the pie board?

@cjmyers513 It could be. Inspect the connections, look at the joints, anything been forced or dropped etc.

no, nothing looks bad. ive tried differnt usb boards and power supplies. ive even just had a micro usb to usb single and then just the power connected and still nothing.

Your gamepads might be fault check if they are detected because a similar problem occurred to me.

I had a similar issue on my Zero W and I wiggled the connection while the system was on and the hub/gamepads were connected and then it instantly showed up with 2 Gamepads connected. I don't know if it was a loose connection or what but it has been working after that. That was a 3 port usb hub connected through a single to micro adapter.

So, I’ve really tried everything to make this thing work. Nothings working. Possible defective pi board. Luckily, they are letting me return it. I’m doing what I should have done in the first place. I’m upgrading to a pi 3 and scrapping the whole pi zero in an old nes cart. Hopefully this will work better. Fingers crossed!
