Navigating lr-vice gui
-
@edmaul69 sorry should have been more clear. I meant I tried start and select (separately) while in the vice gui. Neither of which do anything. Y also does not pull up a keyboard. Should I try updating lr-vice?
-
@quicksilver update retropie setup then update lr-vice. i dont have the newest version. One of the last versions had to be fixed because it wouldnt boot. Maybe that got screwed up too?
-
@quicksilver ok i lied. It is the d-pad that is the mouse. I forgot that i have my joystick setup to act the same as the d-pad
-
@edmaul69 updating lr-vice now. I will check the dpad when it's done. Although I'm fairly sure I tried that already.
-
@edmaul69 so updating lr-vice seems to have made no difference. I can press start to get into the vice gui, but pressing select does not let me use dpad or analog stick as a mouse. I can't even close out the vice gui.
-
@quicksilver can you hook up a mouse and see if a mouse works?
-
@quicksilver also here is what my retroarch options looks like. if yours are different set them to be the same, then exit the game and go back in. it shows the version of vice in the bottom it shows my version as 3.0
-
@edmaul69 mouse doesn't seem to work either. My settings were already the same as yours except I didn't have the status bar turned on. Could it be something to do with my controller mappings in lrvice? I haven't changed anything so it should be default.
Edit: my version is 3.0 as well

@quicksilver can you open up your file /opt/retropie/configs/c64/retroarch.cfg and add this line if it isnt already there.
input_grab_mouse_toggle_btn = "nul"
now replace nul with whatever button number your select button is. also add these how they are
keyboard_gamepad_mapping_type = "1" keyboard_gamepad_enable = "true"
-
@edmaul69 is there an easy way to find out what button number my select key is?
-
@quicksilver if you are using an xbox 360 controller it should be "8" or "6". you can setup your controller in emulationstation again and see what number shows when you choose select. remember to set your hotkey to select if you do configure your controller.
-
@edmaul69 added the lines that you suggested to the that file. I did remap my controller. My hotkey was unassigned (was the this something added recently?) So I assigned it to select at your suggestion. But I am still unable to access the on screen keyboard or navigate the vice gui.
-
@quicksilver can you please hook up a mouse and keyboard? F11 i think is the vice gui or keyboard. Might be another f key. Also see if your mouse works. Another thing you could try is remove or rename the file /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch.cfg and update retroarch from binary. Mine is on 1.6.9 which you can see in the corner when you go into the retroarch gui. Maybe you are on too old of a version.
-
@edmaul69 I will try this when I get home from work. Out of curiosity is your controller option set to retropad or vice controller? I very much appreciate all of your help with this. After a ton of tinkering my pi is almost setup perfectly (after c64 is setup I just need to figure out controller options for intellivision)
-
@quicksilver in retroarch gui it shows my controller as retropad.
-
@edmaul69 the earlier edits you had me do to my config file should I have placed them above or below the #includeconfig line?
-
Above.
-
@quicksilver i did find retropad and vice joystick made no difference for me personally.
-
@edmaul69 so f10 on the keyboard will bring up the vice gui but my mouse doesn't work. My retroarch version is the same as yours. I have tried everything else suggested except removing my retroarch config and then updating. However I don't see an option to update retroarch from binary, only from source. Should I update from source?
-
@quicksilver yes remove the file i mention and update from source
