@smartgenes Solved. I thought I was up to date but just updating the packages solved both issues.

One issue though is full screen, how can I switch from windowed mode?

@UncleCatfish by the way I do know about the VILROS keyboard/ Pi case but it seems a little cheap for my liking. I'm wanting a real clickity clack retro typing experience :D

      @pscotto1234 THANK YOU
      That did the trick!

You saved me perhaps a weeks time. I would have been playing around with this, reinstalling the RetroPie image, starting from scratch, trying this that and everything. Then maybe if I was lucky I would have come up with the answer.

Thank you for saving my time and giving me the answer!
I wonder why some games are for Joystick 1 and some for Joystick 2.

I found a lot of help in this forum. I'm very happy when I can help someone else ;)
      Enjoy!

@buzz Sorry my bad :-( Guess I'm already late for the train since stretch is being removed.
I can survive the rest of the "stretch days" with the vice X64 emulator.. Anyways thanks for all the great work you've done with RetroPie. It is much appreciated :-)

@ChaosFox I have a question on vanilla VICE in Retropie you might be able to answer...

Is there a way to move the virtual keyboard display from the very top/center of the screen. I'd like to pull it down to the bottom as it covers over any questions asked if using a cracked/trainer version of the game. I have to constantly close the display, read the question, re-open...answer.. and repeat.

Other than that, vanilla VICE and a wireless setup is definitely the way to go .

      Thanks!

Check if your repositories don't have any conflicts - I'd remove any 3rd party repos then re-try the installation.

Hi, I asked the developer of lr-caprice32 if he would add save states to the core and he has now kindly implemented them.

      https://github.com/libretro/libretro-cap32/commit/8dc1fe206abc480cfd55c419a4f24f227495488b

You can enable this functionality by running the "update from source" option for lr-caprice32 under RetroPie setup.

@mitu Thank you for your help looking into this! I have no idea how to add compilation flags and had hoped to avoid needing to use a fresh image of 4.4 (I know its not that big a chore or anything) but if that's the only option I'll just leave lr-vice off the pi for now. Thanks again mate, much appreciated.

I think the case looks pretty neat, but the $80 is way too much for me to ever even think about purchasing one. I actually own one of those joysticks with the built-in fpga C64 in it that I bought for $3 at a thrift store, and while not quite as functional as the C64 mini without modification, it's served me well enough, and I plan on modding it when I get a change.

Yeah, lr-vice virtual keyboard is flawed, it seems an hit or miss, game sensitive. On older version there was no way to activate cursor, so better than nothing.
It is better to use usb keyboard for sure.

if you use the standalone vice emulator, you can configure it to use a turbo cartridge by default, which can significantly speed up loading from disks etc, without having to use warp mode in the emulator (which is limited due to CPU speed on RPI).

In case anyone else stumbles across this. The issue appears to be resolved with the latest update. I updated from source today and my mouse cursor is functional and visable now in lr-vice.
