Why doesnt we have vulkan instead of GL on retropie?

    I was thinking about it, what if we had vulkan instead of GL, shouldnt emulators run better with it? it think it worths a try, to use vulkan on em and enable it for users, specially on dreamcast, psp, n64, 3do and others that run bad.

      @edneyhelene Are you talking about the RetroPie version that runs on x86 ? Because the Raspberry PI video driver (VC4) in Raspbian barely supports OpenGL and Vulkan support is not implemented.

        im talking about raspberry pi version, it should be implemented...it would run alot better

          the gpu in all pi models is GLES2, and vulkan requires GLES 3.x, so it fundamentally couldn't support it. maybe the pi4.

            I woudn't hold my breath on it, honestly. Video drivers are out of the RetroPie project's control and are totally up to the vendor or other Linux developers.

                Pi4's Vulkan driver has been merged into the Mesa repo. https://www.raspberrypi.org/blog/vulkan-update-merged-to-mesa/
