ah ok if all is well in emulation station youll be fine its a mame issue

i think you might have accidently remapped some buttons seeing your menu is going on when your in mame from the other post did you delete the cfg files to reset mame to defaults ?

                    make sure mame isint running

                    rm /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/mame-libretro/mame2003/mame2003/cfg/*

this is assuming your roms are in /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/mame-libretro/mame2003/

                    start mame again

                          type ls /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/arcade/mame2003/cfg

if there is files in there do a
                          rm /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/arcade/mame2003/cfg/*

if they arent there they must be in the mame 2003 with spaces

Same here. Running Rasbian Jessie and having all packages up-to-date both Jessie and Retropie updated. I have the output of lsusb:
Bus 001 Device 018: ID 0079:0006 DragonRise Inc. Generic USB Joystick

and the output of ls /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch/autoconfig

DragonRise Inc. Generic USB Joystick .cfg DragonRise Inc. Generic USB Joystick .cfg.bak2
DragonRise Inc. Generic USB Joystick .cfg.bak

I have tried to manual add _player2 to the button config so I have 2 .bak files in this dir:
                                      /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch-joypads
-rw-r--r-- 1 pi pi 605 Dec 7 15:00 DragonRise Inc. Generic USB Joystick .cfg

                                      Here is the current .cfg:

                                      input_l2_btn = "6"

And I have no idea how to move forward now...
