Hi there, complete begginer, so I apologise if I'm missing something obvious. I just can't get Megadrive roms to work. Actually, they work if I switch to DGEN when launching, but neither pico drive nor genesis-plus-gx will work. I select the rom, it opens so I can go into settings, but then it imediatelly closes and I'm back to the rom list. Anyone has any idea of what may be going on?

      Many thanks!

      Pi Model: 3
RetroPie Version Used: 3.6, updated today using apt-get update/ upgrade, then full binaries
      Built From: SD
      USB Devices connected:
      Controller used: PS3
Error messages received: None, it just clses. Looked for errors in /tmp/runcommand, but it was empty
      File: All megadrive roms
      Emulator: picodrive and genesis-plus-gx

That usually means a missing bios... Try to reinstall the emulator via the Retropie config

        RPi B & RPi 3B OC (Now Raspberry pi 4b 8gb)
        Retropie (Latest Stable)
PiBox with Wind Tunnel Cooling System

I think Megadrive doesn't need BIOS, unless I'm running sega-cd etc. I reinstalled via binaries and it still doesn't work. I'm doing from source now. Thanks!

If you have a spare SD try a clean 3.7, it should work then.

I have found that many times that updating breaks stuff.

please paste the contents of /tmp/runcommand.log after an unsuccessful load

Rucommand.log was blank everytime. But I actually solved it, it was a rom problem. The rom set opened fine in my PC's emulators, but I tried downloading another set. Then it worked! Thank you very much.

old megadrive roms has metadata info from copiers and use mostly *.smd extension , usually *.md and *.bin are pretty clean roms, but to make sure you used the proper ones try verify them with no-intro http://datomatic.no-intro.org/?page=download
