Arcade Machine Build underway...
-
honestly i just done it cause it was cheaper than a seperate amp and speakers.
-
@grant2258 makes absolute sense... any thoughts on getting some vinyl wraps - cheap and cheerful? Iron-on or glue/stick type jobs?
-
I used Rockstar Print. Great quality and choice but only you can decide if you consider the prices cheap.
-
@domogram-rovers thanks mate... I’ll have a look at them on line and see!! ... I’m quite excited to finish this project!
-
@grant2258 purchased online, collection tomorrow!... looking forward to pulling it all apart and using the guts ! ... was it easy to get the speakers out or are they glued in?
-
just take the front grills off the screws are under them. You can be careful or not its up to you. They come off easy enough but can brake if you are rough again its up to you is you wanna put them back. After its apart its just a matter of desoldering the wires slipping them out the speaker base and solder back.
-
@grant2258 mate! Boom! Installed!! ... you superstar... saved me loads of time! ... the missus won’t let me spray paint it yet because she wants to finish playing tumblepop!!
Last weeks video below, I’m planning a release this weekend with a special mention for you!! Thanks!! (But I forgot your name when I made the video!!)

nice build mate I have zero woodwork skills and managed to make one with a jigsaw and mans best friend guessing what i wanted it to look like and just draw it by hand then cut it.
I still need to do the top marquee on mine but it looks ok for me. I just spray painted mine black with poundland paint and put a little perspex on the front.
I originally ran it on a pie but then i decided to run it on an old i3 laptop which fits in the box. I got retropie compiled and all was good until i tried to use the monitor on my laptop. It only has hdmi and my monitor im using only has dvi and vga and it doesnt play ball with a pass through cable some I might neeed to get another adapter that will convert the signal properly.

@grant2258 Exactly... 5 quid for HDMI to VGA on eBay... Here's a lovely mention for you... thanks for your help!... going to look at your pictures now!
-
was a nice project well presented mate . I can tell you love your arcades now have a game of rygar, black tiger and shinobi. 3 of my favs.
ps i love how you took the grinder to the speakers that was class
-
@dubiousengineer mine would probably be jankier, but I'd probably find a way to make the volume controls accessible.
Great build
-
I bought my graphics from Mini Arcade Machines.
-
@herb_fargus ... well thanks to you guys I’m laearning something! ... yup, I have to lift it up to adjust the volume at the moment... not a big deal, but I’m sure it can be made better!! Did you see the latest vid? ... big thanks to this forum!!
-
@herman27d I have contacted them! Thanks!!
-
you dont need to adjust the volume just set it to a level you find you want it at max leave it there and set the volume you want to change it to with retropie . This is how you do it with car amps (i know im simplifying this) the am levels are set then the radio controls the gain the amp gets. again if you want the volume button visible that wont be a problem. I personally have mine at max before any white noise comes from the amp and just adjust retro pie to the volume I want it at. All i do is press the start button and change the volume there again its all personal choice
-
I finally got the whole thing built mate! - Loving gaming, and yes, there was no real need to fit a volume control on the outside... just set the amp to a level before white noise becomes irritating!
Again, thanks for your help with this project! - WE ARE LOVING PLAYING IT!
-
Right, what games are good two player co-op? Fot the wife and I?
Project complete and some serious gaming about to take place on SNOW day in UK!
-
glad you got it all sorted mate them jamma machines sell a lot people dont really tend to keep the ole pandoras or just gut them out. co op lets see bubble bobble(just because of the music lol), Ikari Warriors, double dragon, golden axe, teenage mutant ninja turtles. ive been playing flying shark a lot lately but its not a co op
-
@grant2258 Thanks kindly Grant...!! - I'll get on and write those down - see if they are in the rom list... In the meantime, I've been making a handheld out of wood... made some amazing progress this weekend ... fitting the screen as we speak! ... Video of Part 1 below if interested!
-
that a genius way to mill think there might be some health and safety issues you might want to include a disclaimer. Where did you get the lcd display. Ive got a few ardunios and some lcd displays was thinking of hooking it up to the pie and displaying the game name your playing on the top bezel
