Retropie not recognizing joystick inputs
-
Hey everyone!
Great forum!
I'm new to the Raspberry Pi thing and the primary reason for it was to play all the old retro games i played as a kid! Anyway, i got the Pi built and working great with NES USB controllers. I recently built a wall hanging cabinet and purchased the button and joystick kit from Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01M2X88QP/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I got everything wired up last night, but when Retropie launched and it ask to program the inputs, it doesn't seem to notice the joystick. It recognizes the buttons immediately though. If i move the joystick around alot it will occasionally trip an input of an "axis", but it's rare and very inconsistent. I rebooted many times and checked all my connections with no improvement. So i don't know if it's the actual joystick or the circuit board.
I email the address that was on the business card that was included in my box but haven't heard anything. The business card called out Jiu Man which i'm not sure if that's the manufacturer or what.
In the interim, i ordered another joystick last night: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MR6JKMS/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
any ideas?

@willie1280 hi the 5 pin wire connected to the joystick looks like the red side is up which makes me think it's upside down . Turn it the other way so the white side is up . Give it a try .

I thought the same based on some reading, however the plug can only go in 1 way. I would have to pop all the leads out of the connector and insert them back in backwards.
Looks like the other joystick i ordered was delivered today so i'll try that one when i get home and see how it goes.

Flipped the wires in the connector and ta-da, it works. So someone must have fell asleep while soldering the connector onto the joystick as it’s backwards.
Thanks for helping fellas!
