ES custom collections issue
-
Hi all,
I have a question about ES Custom collections. I got a lot of info from this forum but could not find an answer.
I created some custom collection config files which are matching theme categories in my current ComicBook theme. The following files are located in: /opt/retropie/configs/all/emulationstation/collections
custom-btmups.cfg
custom-fighting.cfg
custom-shmups.cfgThese configs contain references to roms which are present at their defined locations. For example custom-fighting.cfg contains:
/home/pi/RetroPie/roms/fba/xmvsf.zip
/home/pi/RetroPie/roms/snes/Super Street Fighter II (USA).zipThese show up nicely in the Fighting category.
When I do exactly the same for the other configs some games do show up in the list and some won't. Those who won't show up in the collection are available from there own category (FBA category for example)
I can't get my head around this. Does anyone have a clue where to look?

🤔 Please give us some examples of games / locations / collections that do not work.
Do they show up in they original gamelist (the system they are located in)?
Are you running a non-full UI mode (kiosk or kid)? -
custom-btmups.cfg contains:
/home/pi/RetroPie/roms/fba/altbeast.zip /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/fba/avsp.zip /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/fba/baddudes.zip /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/fba/batcir.zip /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/fba/bloodbro.zip /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/fba/captaven.zip /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/fba/captcomm.zip /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/fba/ddragon.zip /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/fba/ddragon2.zip /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/fba/ddragon3.zip /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/fba/xmen.zip
The only one which shows in the new Fighting playlist is X-Men. When I go to the original FBA playlist all the games do show and work when selected from there.
I'm running in Full UI mode
Edit: I found out that only the last entry shows. So in the above example when I delete the x-men reference, Double Dragon 3 will show.
Edit 2: I figured it out. It was the encoding of the document. The document has to be encoded Unix(LF) and UTF-8. Notepad ++ is a good source for this.

@pwavg glad you sorted it out. I missed the initial post but I was as puzzled as everyone else here.
Feel free to tag me in issues related to the custom collections. Happy to help if I can!

I was actually wondering about customizing the marquee artwork for a particular custom collection folder within the custom-collections system.
Take the theme ComicBook for example. There is a
/etc/emulationstation/themes/ComicBook/custom-collections
folder where it has artwork for the system "custom-collections"But really this custom collection "system" is a collection of FOLDERS that are each a specific collection. What I was looking to do is specify the system marquee artwork for each collection within this "custom-collection" system.
Is that possible? Or do I need to manually create a custom system for each of my collections? I was reading some other posts that were asking specifically about how to do that but it was not clear if you could avoid doing that or not.

@alturis I'm not fully sure about the theming aspects of it, and how that's structured.
The custom-collection theme folder has the theme settings for all the custom collections that will be grouped under the "my collections" err... collection, as sub-folders.
You won't be able to further customize them there - there is a single theme/layout for each ES "system".
If, however, you're looking to add specific custom collection artwork, add them to the root of the theme. Look at some of the other custom collections (mario, kids, shmups) in that theme for a good example. These will show at the main carousel level, though, not inside the "My Collections" folder.
