What is the MAME ROW?

MAME ROW stands for MAME Random Of the Week. We randomly select an arcade game from the 0.78 MAME Reference Set to play on the week. The idea is to play games we've never played before, interact with other forum members, post hi-scores, share game strategies, fun facts, and (the most important) HAVE FUN!

Notes:

1. We usually post hi-scores screenshots after playing with only one credit. If you used more than one credit, please mention it on your post.

2. There's no need to use RetroPie to join the MAME ROW! You can play it on any platform you want.

3. Feel free to post your hi-score (or any content about the game) anytime you want on the previous rounds topics (link below).

Every Monday we create a topic at the "General Discussion and Gaming > MAME Random Of the Week" forum section with the 3 random games to be voted. And on Wednesday we check the result.

These "rules" are constantly being improved!

I'm on holiday this week so sadly won't be able to try any of these until the weekend. Then it's my son's birthday party so I probably won't have much time then either.

Looks like fun though.

Well no-one seems to have played this one, so I'll try to sneak in at the last minute with my low ball score of 4130!

Still not very sure what I'm doing on this one.

Ah, kind of worked it out after a few more games...

It appears you are some weird angel who gets killed on contact with red or yellow bananas. By collecting 'arks' (which look a bit like hairy purple one-eyed monsters) you upgrade to a blue angel who can eat the bananas by jumping in to them.

On being eaten bananas go crazy for a few seconds then start bouncing around again,they are not destroyed.

The blue angel upgrade is temporary however. So you basically need to try to eat as many bananas as you can while it lasts. Each subsequent banana eaten gives exponentially increased points - e.g. 1st banana 100 points, 2nd banana 200 points, 400 points, 800 points, 1600 points, etc.

Sometimes an ark does not upgrade you to a blue angel, it contains another banana, which usually then immediately kills you (unless you are already a blue angel)

Sometimes an ark contains a yellow angel guy who flys around and steals a banana. I don't really know if that is a good thing or a bad thing.

Once you have collected all the arks on a level there doesn't appear to be any way to destroy the rest of the bananas so you quickly die.

With this hazy understanding of the game mechanics, I improved my score to 11110 !
