CanaKit 3b+ w/ Retropie issues.
-
So, I just got my new Canakit 3b+ in the mail. It came with a preformatted SD with NOOBS and Raspbian. When I put this in my system, it boots fine, as expected. When I format this card with SD Formatter on my Mac and then use ApplePi-Baker to burn the retropie-4.3-rpi2_rpi3.img I can't get past the rainbow screen with the under-voltage icon.
I contacted CanaKit about this and received this response:
"The symptoms described occur if you are using software that is actually NOT compatible with the new Pi 3 B+ . It is unrelated to the power supply or any other component. For example, if you take a MicroSD card from a Pi 2 or Pi 3 B and simply place it into the new Pi 3 B+, this is exactly the behavior that occurs.
Please ensure to load the latest version of NOOBS (V2.7.0) which was released on March 14 2018"
So, I did as instructed and put Noobs 2.7.0 with included Raspbian back on the card. Now everything works again, but I'm just not sure why. Do I need a specific version of Retropie for 3b+? I'm only seeing the version 2 & 3 image for download. Do I just need to configure something in config.txt first before placing the sd card on my pi? Should I use another OS instead (I've seen plenty of Retropie on 3b+ videos out there, so I don't think this is the case)? Also, I'm using the included CanaKit 2.5a power adapter, which is supposedly pretty decent.
Thanks

Yes, since the 3B+ requires a new Raspbian version, you need the RetroPie version based on Raspbian Stretch - https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/16307/retropie-4-3-15-stretch-images-for-testing?page=1. Make sure you perform the necessary configurations for the Wifi to work, as described in the topic.
