So. I blame windoze (windoze 10) for this one but wanted to see if anyone else has seen it. It throws this error when transferring large files (~>250MB )over samba.

Found a few obscure fixes on youtube but none worked in my attempts. any suggestions?

    • running on the pi 3B, fresh beta stretch image.

For the record the files transfer fine over winscp its just the windows explorer samba client that is being dumb

Are you transfering the files to the sdcard, to a mounted usb hard drive or what? By default on samba, you can only transfer files as large as your / (root) filesystem available free space, even if the target as more free space available.

@rascas this is straight to the SD card. 8GB, 4 GB of free space.

I currently don't have a way to test this with RetroPIe, but it works fine with my OSMC setup while copying files up to 3gb. Although I have to say that I haven't updated OSMC to the stretch version yet nor have I updated Windows recently (latest update was maybe around the start of the year). So maybe Stretch, Windows or something with RetroPie is causing troubles on your end.

Probably some configuration of the samba server on your end, like for example, check if it is using tmpfs as "cache".

I copied over my Sega CD and psx games yesterday to my stretch testing image from my win10 pc.
Obviously some of these are nearly 700mb and all mine copied over no problems what so ever.

But when I say my stretch testing image it is not the retropie beta one.

I always install retropie the manual way.
So my image consists of installing raspian stretch lite then installing retropie from script.

I must also add that I install and set up samba myself and do not use any scripts in retropie setup to configure samba.

              Hope this helps

I'll run another test over samba on my Linux PC just to eliminate the windoze variable. and I also got a new router so that may help with network latency if that was the underlying issue. As rascas said it's probably something specific to my configs on my Windows machine, may even be a driver issue with my wifi as I noticed some connectivity issues on my Windows PC after updating to windows 10.

I mostly just wanted to make sure that this wasn't also happening to other people as I have 10 ways around the problem myself, but wanted to rule out a bigger bug if it was systemic.

I just ended up using a different method, winscp on Windows, I also just mount my USB directly now instead of transferring files cause I reimage so often
