Cannot Enter RGUI Menu From IR-Mame2003
-
I just recently put together my perfect retropie build using a pair of 8-bitdo bluetooth controllers. A buddy of mine was so impressed with my build that he wanted one of his own, only with wired usb controllers. So, I copied my sdcard image onto his sd card and then began changing control configurations for each system via the retroarch configuration menu (RGUI). The ONLY issue I'm having is with IR-MAME2003. For some reason, I can't even bring up the RGUI at all. Also, when I press TAB to configure controls within MAME, it will recognize my dpad inputs but not button presses. So, basically at this point when I launch a game via IR-MAME2003 to test something, I have to pull the plug on my pi in order to exit the emulator (which makes me cringe every time!)
I have been scouring various posts related to this for hours but nothing has worked. I have checked the general Retroarch settings and it says that my enable hotkey button is set to "rshift" and my exit retroarch button is set to "enter". So, I should be able to hit "rshift + enter" to exit a game within IR-MAME2003 but I get nothing. Please let me know if you guys can think of anything else for me to try!
-My Setup-
Pi Model: Raspberry Pi 3 Model B
Power Supply: Official Canakit
RetroPie Version: 4.1
Built From: Pre-made SD Image on RetroPie website
Controller used: iNNEXT SNES Retro USB Controllers -
@twinparadox Try removing all your existing controller mappings - from the ES package in RetroPie Setup, choose to remove any input configuration. Then re-configure the SNES controller and don't choose a Hotkey in the configuration dialog. You should be able to use
Select
as Hotkey and exit viaSelect + Start

@mitu Thank you for the suggestion. Will that disrupt my controller mappings for all of other systems? I was thinking of manually adding the button mappings to the mame2003 config file. I noticed it was basically empty when compared to the config file for the rest of my other systems.

If your system freezes you can usually restart via SSH. I use an app on my iPhone called “Termius” which gives me a terminal which comes in handy when I’m working on “Breaking” my image. Just enter “sudo reboot” at the prompt.

@chuckyp Thanks a lot I will give that a shot. I don't have an iPhone but I'm sure I can track down an app or utility that would do something similar so that I don't have to worry about corrupting my sd card due to improperly shutting down the system.

Ok it looks like I have figured it out. Apparently I needed to edit the retroarch.cfg file that was in the arcade folder instead of the mame-libretro. Once I properly set the hotkey and the menu toggle buttons, I was able to bring up the RGUI menu and then consequently configure the rest of my controls. Thank you everyone and hopefully this will help someone else down the road. Mark as solved!
