How to exit vice
-
@johnny5126 you have to bring up the vice menu and then scroll down to the bottom option. Should be something listed there like quit or exit.
Alternatively you could install Lr-vice from experimental packages. This would allow you to exit using start+select to exit a game. Also, lr-vice gives you the option of using an onscreen keyboard which is really nice.

I haven't got around to trying lr-vice yet. Is the onscreen keyboard the same as the one in the standalone VICE, or is it expanded in some way?

@mediamogul not sure I realized there was an onscreen keyboard on standalone vice. I will have to check and see. Lr-vice is nice because it is easier to remap the controller. Also left trigger will switch controller ports which is nice for those games that default to port 1. Plus pressing start+hotkey to exit keeps things simple.

I've been hearing good things about it. I need to check it out.
-
@quicksilver You can also do this on regular Vice. Just press 'm' to map the selected function to a controller button. You can even map the onscreen keyboard buttons.

I don't understand why lr-vice is still in the experimental section. It works just fine for me.

@mediamogul lr-vice is awesome. You need to set some core options to change controller 1 to joystick and set what cpu chip type you want. The start button brings up a menu that allows you to swap joysticks. The other is useless as its controlled by core options. Once in menu, select changes your dpad/analog to mouse and your a and b buttons become mouse buttons. Press select inside or outside of menus changes it back to joystick. Y is your virtual keyboard.

In either Vice or lr-Vice is there any way to assign multiple buttons to one arcade button? Depending on the game, F1, F3, F7, space, run/stop, etc are the keys needed to start a game, so Id need an awful lot of buttons to assign them to play C64 on an arcade cabinet.

Sounds nice. I'll have to give it shot.

This is where invoking the on screen keyboard becomes handy. I mapped it to my 'Start' button because of this very thing.

Now vice won't save the mapped hot keys. I load up the virtual keyboard, select a key, press M then press a button to map. In game it works fine. I press f12, then settings management, and save hot keys, and then I exit and reenter, and the key is no longer saved. Any ideas?
