I will try with a external USB bluetooth dongle, and report back later

Yes RetroPie 3.7 is also freezing for me. I thought it was just when i was editing Meta-Data and playing GBA games, but i can see it is a wider problem. Here is a link to the forum post i just made.

Looks like an USB BT dongle works fine, and no crashes yet

This came up with 3.6 (discussed here and elsewhere), it is probably the PS3 bluetooth causing the freeze. Although the changelog for 3.7 says that the issue (timeout) has been fixed, it is still crashing for me after the update. Wired works fine.

I've just given up with sixaxis/dualshock as I think it must be a very difficult problem for the developers to pin down. So I bought a new controller for retropie (I couldn't wait for another update to get my retro fix!). Went for a logitech one, seems okay and works fine but it is no playstation controller.

The 3.7 update has fixed some pairing issues on boot etc - unrelated to the crashing issue which is a known problem with the built in bluetooth on the rpi3.

It is nothing to do with RetroPie-Setup anyway - it is a firmware / kernel issue with the new bluetooth.

                        I did a fresh re-install of 3.7 rather than upgrade from 3.6

The freezing and crashing has stopped for me.

BTW I am not using PS3 Controllers

                        Thanks

                          Same setup here.

It freezes when using PS3 controllers via bluetooth. no issue when using them over USB cable.
