OK, you're using lr-mame2003. The cheat file is apparently added automatically, so all you'll need to do is enable cheats in the core options from the RetroArch menu. This can also be done externally from a text editor as noted here.

Yep, RetroPie-Setup copies the cheats.dat into the system folder when mame2003 is installed. As opposed to hiscore.dat which is now built into the core itself so no external file is required.

Thanks, I would incorporate the cheats file too but it's quite a bit larger.

Well, the more important of the two got in. Mame2003 has really seen some great improvements thanks to you guys. It's much appreciated. When the dust settles a bit I plan on putting together a 2003plus set as well.

mame2003 is of course enabled, but I can not access with tab does not work.

                retroarch-core-options.cfg

                /opt/retropie/configs/all/
                L'option est:

                mame2003-cheats = "enabled"

                How to do?

After launching a game in lr-mame2003, invoke the RetroArch menu by pressing 'hotkey+x'. From there, navigate down to and select 'Options' and you should see the the option to enable cheats there.

I think cheats are actually 'always on' as a core option now in mame2003. You do still need the cheats.dat in the right place.

When you're using mame2003 and press the tab button, is one of the menu options called Cheats?

I found this to be most useful, you have to turn on advanced settings in retroarch to download cheats, although that’s more for all other systems, and the cheats are then found in the lr-mame2003 menu rather than retroarch. Forgot to add, the addition to /opt/retropie/configs/all/ adding the line; mame2003-cheats = "enabled" did it for me

This has already been done. The cheat.dat file is in the right place, everything is activated but it does not appear in retroarch by making hotkey + X. There is no cheat except for consoles, but it's the arcade that I want to activate.

MAME cheats are not going to be found in the Hotkey + X menu. They are found in the mame2003 MAME menu which you see when you press the Tab button while playing a game

Ah, good to know. It's been a while since I used cheats in lr-mame2003

the tab key does not work

It may have become unassigned. You should find a directory named 'mame2003' in whatever folder your mame ROMs are being launched from. Inside there should be a directory named 'cfg' that contains a file named default.cfg. Delete it and all emulator controls will be set to the default and 'Tab' should open the menu again.

@mediamogul Thanks, this was helpful in getting advmame cheats working for me but I'm noticing that every time I close and re-open a game I have to go back in and turn the cheat back on. Is there a way to make it permanent?

Is there maybe a setting in the retroarch.cfg that needs added or turned off?
