PSX Speedhack Triggering Black Screen During Certain In-game Effects
-
So, here's the issue. I have a Raspberry Pi 3 B running Retropie with dozens of ROMs and emulators installed. I'm new to these forums, but I have plenty of experience using Retropie, Retroarch, and various other bits of emulation software. So to get this out of the way, yes, I have the PSX BIOS. The issue I'm having is that whenever I enable the enhanced resolution speedhack option in the Retroarch quickmenu, I will get a black screen when viewing certain in-game effects. This occurs on several occasions, seemingly triggered by certain in-game effects. In Metal Gear Solid, it happens whenever I'm underwater, and at various other points throughout the game. Most recently, I attempted to play Xenogears, but was too distracted by having the screen go black whenever the game encountered a visual effect it didn't like. I know the description for the speedhack states that enabling the option may cause graphical glitches/bugs, but it sounds like this only really happens during pre-rendered FMV cutscenes and the like. I've haven't come across anyone else with having this issue, and would very much like to play PSX games at a higher resolution while still being able to actually see the game at any given time. So, can anyone offer a solution to this problem? Could it be as simple as changing the BIOS, (which seems like an unlikely solution,) or is there something else I could do or enable to fix the black screens?

whilst i’ve not tested those specific games, that sounds like exactly the kind of visual bugs you get with enhanced res + speedhack. it’s not limited to FMV.

@dankcushions yeah, it's probably as simple as that. I just wish there were some way to fix the issues.
