Some FBA roms not working in latest build of Retropie/LR-FBA-next?
-
Hey Y'all,
Just downloaded and installed a fresh copy today of Retropie 4.0 beta 2 on a new Pi3 for a friend of mine. Trying to run FBA games with LR-FBA-next, but many of the roms that are supposed to work on the pi3 in the compatibility list, aren't starting and it kicks back to emulation station (metal slug, samurai showdown, etc..). The weird part is those same roms work on my personal pi3 with 4.0 beta 2, and I have been playing them for the past month.
Any clue as to the issue here? My pi3 maybe has an older build of 4.0 beta 2, because I installed it right when it was released almost a month ago. Was their a newer build of FBA-next or RetroPie that was released recently that broke the compatibility of some games?
-I am using the right romset, FBA 0.2.97.38, and as I mentioned, these games were working on my own build, but not my friends. Mame4all and the other emulators are working fine, if that helps?
-I double checked the content of my neogeo.zip bios against the recommended files in the retropie wiki, everything is there.
-Placed the bios file in the Arcade folder where the rest of the mame roms are. I even tried to put the file into the BIOS folder as well, to see if that fixes it, and nothing's happening...
First time poster, this is a great community! Any help would be greatly appreciated :-(
Hardware: pi3

The roms you say dont work are Neo Geo ones, is your neogeo.zip verified for that romset and in your roms directory? Is your neogeo zip for fba-next or for mame4all? To be honest I havent tried using one that deals with both, but I guess it would work if none of the rom files inside clash.
Has clrmamepro confirmed your romset is correct?
https://github.com/retropie/retropie-setup/wiki/Managing-ROMsIf you are using the arcade folder, are you having different roms for different emulators? Obviously lr-fba-next will need different versions to mame4all.

Hey Floob, thanks for the reply back! I got introduced to RetroPie through your videos and used them to help set up my own so I appreciate all your help!

As far as my Neogeo.zip, I followed the latest wiki update in the MAME section that talks about the files needed in the neogeo.zip. I have every file in that list...https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/MAME

You are right, I don't have a different neogeo.zip file for both emulators (mame4all, lr-fbanext). As I mentioned earlier, it works fine in my own pi3 installation. Trying to figure out what could have possibly changed, when I am installing the exact same files on my friends pi3.

Yes I did make sure the FBA roms I am using are from the right FBA romset, and I am only using those roms with lr-fba-next. In my arcade folder, yes I do have different roms that are set to use their respective emulators
I'm guessing no one else has this problem though because I haven't heard of anyone or seen any replies about FBA issues in the current build of lr-fba-next or RetroPie :-/

MAME isn't FBA. that neogeo file list is only for (one of) the versions of MAME. the correct neogeo.zip for lr-fba-next will be included in a FBA 0.2.97.38 romset, or verifiable against the same DAT.
fba-next recently got updated to a new set, with a new neogeo.zip, which might explain your problem.

@dankcushions and @Floob you nailed it. I actually had a hunch that it might be my neogeo.zip. I had all the right files in the neogeo.zip, but I found a complete FBA .2.97.38 romset (I previously just downloaded some FBA roms from website, still the correct version though), and looked at it's neogeo.zip.
When I placed that neogeo.zip file on the pi3, everything worked! Problem solved. I drilled down even further through trial and error, and found the bad file in my old neogeo.zip was "sm1.sm1". If I replaced it from the new neogeo.zip, that solved it as well. So frustrating, but I figured, as did @dankcushions and @Floob, that it had to be something with the neogeo bios....
Thanks guys, truly appreciate the help!
