MAME ROW stands for MAME Random Of the Week. We randomly select an arcade game from the 0.78 MAME Reference Set to play on the week. The idea is to play games we've never played before, interact with other forum members, post hi-scores, share game strategies, fun facts, and (the most important) HAVE FUN!
Notes:
-
We usually post hi-scores screenshots after playing with only one credit. If you used more than one credit, please mention it on your post.
-
There's no need to use RetroPie to join the MAME ROW! You can play it on any platform you want.
-
Feel free to post your hi-score (or any content about the game) anytime you want on the previous rounds topics (link below).
Every Monday we create a topic at the "General Discussion and Gaming > MAME Random Of the Week" forum section with the 3 random games to be voted. And on Wednesday we check the result.
These "rules" are constantly being improved!

I am not sure what to pick this time. Puyo Puyo is a classic, but the Emeraldia is interesting too.
Emeraldia It's not historically important (as I know), but its from Namco. The graphics doesn't look interesting at first look, but looking at the tutorial intro, it does have some interesting mechanics. I will give it a try. Video with the tutorial included:
Ultraman is especially in Japan a well known hero as I know. It doesn't look that bad, but I don't know if I want play this for highscores. At least it would be something different than those shmups or match block games. Here is a longer play with 2 players:
Puyo Puyo is one of the genre defining classics. I never played it other than testing. Its the same game with a reskin known as Kirby's Ghost Trap for SNES and Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine for Mega Drive/Genesis. Here a video with the tutorial included:

Puyo is a classic, but played it recently, and they always dump half a screen of stuff on me real quick, probably means I'm not good at it. Emeraldia is great but more of the same.
So, it's Ultraman, quite cool too.

This week was a tie. In those instances we go to the random number generator on random.org. The number chosen was 84, even, so the winner is Puyo Puyo
-
Wow, the arcade version is a lot harder than the home ports.

This game makes my brain hurt. I can handle simple Tetris but here you need to plan ahead under pressure...ugh.
I scored under 5000 after several tries, won't be a danger to anybody in this round :) -
@youxia Try the "Lessons" (go left of round 1 at the stage select screen), but a warning, stage 2 there is insanely fast too.

I can not believe I missed this game! :( I used to have the snes version called Kirby's Avalanche (US) Kirby's Ghost Trap (UK) I bought it because it was playable on the X-Band modem. Had a lot of fun playing people from all over the country. and while I can ..well could hold my own..now maybe not so much xD
