    Hi all,

After searching and trying many things, I have no clue what next. I have a 2560 x 1080 monitor (ultra wide LG monitor, or 21:9). I am able to get my PI to boot with Raspbian by editing the /boot/config.txt with values based on this post:
    2560x1080 on raspbian

It works, it boots, all good.

So I then create a brand new RetroPie SD card from the official image, boot, and it boots in 1920x1080.

My idea was to edit the /boot/config.txt the same way... It boots... until BAM! I get this error:

    lvl0: Error creating SDL window!
Could not initialize OpenGL / GLES library
    lvl0: Renderer failed to initialize!
    lvl0: Window failed to initialize!

Keyboard is frozen, all I can do is SSH in and reboot or hard-reboot it.

    I have a rpi 3B (not the +).

From what I can gather, it looks like it could be a EmulationStation / Theme problem... But I have no clue where to look.

I have updated the firmware to the latest to no avail.

    Anyone can suggest anything?

The goal is to have Pixel to run in that resolution (21:9) and ideally EmulationStation as well; but if the game use smaller window, I'm OK with that.

    Thanks!

    M

Performance will suffer running at that resolution - it may be failing due to lack of GPU memory. I would recommend lowering the output resolution.

I run in 720p for ES/Emulation on my 1080p monitor anyway (I use 1080p for Kodi though).

I still would like to do 21:9.. but that’s an idea to try that.

@microb41 According to the Raspberrypi website, there is a pixel clock limit, ie effectively a limit to the number of pixels that can be controlled, of 1920x1200@60 Hz, so as your resolution exceeds that, it shouldn't work

You can set higher resolutions, in config.txt, but they won't work.

          https://www.raspberrypi.org/documentation/configuration/config-txt/video.md

Further down on the same page, it shows you how to create a custom screen resolution, so it would be worth you looking at that to get the aspect ratio you want.
