      Hi all,
I just recently built a Pi and have been having a bit of trouble getting some of the Doom II Master levels (the standalone pack of .wad files) running via pr-boom. I have Ultimate Doom/Doom II/TNT/Plutonia running just fine with the appropriate .sh script commands found here, but when I try to use the same coding to push the master levels through, only half of them launch while the others bizarrely launch Doom II.

I've tried redoing the commands again and again, but not sure why they launch Doom II instead of the standalone map. This happens to about 9 of the 20 .wad files.

      Any suggestions?

      Here are my specs:

      Pi Model: Pi3
      Power Supply: 100-240v, 50/60hz, 5.2V 2500mA, Model: GFJ-052-250
RetroPie Version Used: 4.4 (April, 2018)
Built From: assembled and formatted myself
USB Devices connected: PS4 Dualshock, Kensington keyboard
      Controller used: PS4 Dualshock
      Error messages received: see above
      Guide used: https://github.com/retropie/retropie-setup/wiki/Doom
      Emulator: prboom

I also may make a new thread on this, but was wondering if anyone had any success running Heretic/Hexen properly (couldn't find a solid answer on this via searching), and also if folks have had any luck using a controller for Quake via Darkplaces (which is a beauty otherwise, especially to have that NIN soundtrack ripping).

I'll gladly start new threads on these other issues, if need be! Thanks all, for the help.

You have to give some examples on what doesn't work - how does the script you use to launch the ML looks like ?

First, as with all the other Doom wads, I enter this command:

          nano /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/ports/Doom\ Black\ Tower.sh

and then create the .sh file with this text:

          #!/bin/bash
          "/opt/retropie/supplementary/runcommand/runcommand.sh" 0 _PORT_ "doom" "/home/pi/RetroPie/roms/ports/doom/BLACKTWR.WAD"

and then I save, exit, and run this command:

          chmod 0755 "/home/pi/RetroPie/roms/ports/Doom\ Black\ Tower.sh"

...then boot Emulation Station. The .sh properly appears in Ports and I launch it the way I've launched the other games successfully, and that's when Doom II launches instead of the Black Tower map. It's not just the first map of Doom II, either. Once I complete it, it takes me to the next map as if I were playing Doom II properly and in full.

This is one of the commands/.sh files that HASN'T worked - though I used the exact same technique with ATTACK.WAD (and Doom\ Attack.sh) and that map launched without any issues.

I've tried downloading different versions of the .wad files to make sure they weren't a problem, and I can rule that out as well.

Have you checked out the Unofficial Master Levels for Doom 2 Patch?

It's near the bottom of the page.

It combines all of the maps into one WAD that you can determine the order of during the creation process and can even improve the music usage so that it is more diverse.

Unofficial Master Levels for Doom 2 Patch

I checked this out briefly. I'm not terribly PC savvy these days (been Mac soft for almost 10 years now), but has anyone tried this and can vouch for it?

Without any knowledge about patches, it does sound like I can just run this .exe and it does the rest (I love the idea of having control of the order they appear)...which would make me a wad file I can use the above process for.

Can anyone with better PC chops than I do vouch for this? I have a PC at work I can play with, but won't be til next week. Thanks!

@joethelion I used it a while back to make the WAD (used Xaser's Arrangement with Xaser's music selections), but I never got around to playing it after getting burned out on Doom after Ultimate Doom. It did exactly as it says there and added the Master Levels as the second episode to Doom 2, though I was playing on GZDoom on my PC for the 3D space rendering.

I use zdoom for all doom stuff. There is a wad that has a list that lets you choose which master levels wad you want to load. You just have to have all the wads in the same folder. Might work for lr-prboom too. Not sure.
