Missing files in Daphne download for Windows?
-
I read this thread listed below, which seemed to be in the right zone, but I thought it better to start a new thread and reference the old one. I'm thinking maybe @caver01 or @mediamogul might know the answer to this?
Re: Dragon's Lair - Daphne Emulator
I recently bought a 20th Anniversary Edition DVD for Dragon's Lair (and DL2 and SA) and went to install it on my RetroPie console. However, when I downloaded the zip file (for Windows) from Daphne, it's now missing the final folder that contains the Text, OGG and M2V files. This is obviously the core of the install, so I'm at a bit of a loss on how to move forward, even though I paid for the games. My understanding is that the arrangement Daphne has with Digital Leisure is that they would allow Daphne to distribute those files as long as the installation ensured the user was in possession of a licensed version of the game (which I am). Does anyone know what might have changed recently in that payload and where I might be able to find those 3 files (and the associated ones for DL2 and SA)? As I'm sure many of you can relate, the arcade just isn't quite complete without at least Dragon's Lair and Space Ace!
Thanks for the thoughts / help!
Chris

yeah i noticed this last week, as i wanted to see if there was any new updates on the daphne loader, i was unable to download any of the non digital leisure games, and never tried the rest and posted about it in another thread.

Thanks for the quick reply Stuart. Good to know I wasn't the only one seeing that problem. Thanks also for the link to the other thread. I went through it, but wasn't able to find any good guidance on how to get access to those 3 files that used to be available on Daphne (although nice to know that the port is apparently underway). Since they were made available so freely before (and with Digital Leisure's knowledge), I would think it would be something that could be freely shared by the general public. I certainly don't want to break any forum rules, but I sure would like to know a place I could pick those up. Even just a DropBox or something like that.
Thanks for any further thoughts or thoughts from others on the forum!

I believe Daphne's arrangement with Digital Leisure was contingent on a system of checks within the software that identified the presence of purchased DVDs and/or CD ROMs. Whatever the case, the video files are copyrighted material and shouldn't be linked to in any way here. From reading a few of their forum comments, it seems as though the game files are usually distributed through a torrent server/client built into Daphne. If that's the case, it could be that there just aren't any seeders at the time you're wanting to download. Try leaving the download going for an extended period of time and see if you get any results. I'd start by leaving it overnight.

Makes sense. Thanks for the suggestions. I had previously missed that that final folder was added after it checked whether you had a valid DVD. For some reason it had saved the folder in a different location, but I found it and was able to get the files. Now I just have to figure out how to map the controls appropriately. :) Thx!

they were, i know the site used as its where i get my mame stuff from, heres what they had to say:-
**Posted on: 09/08/2018
The closing of sites around us has not gone unnoticed.
We have seen a massive flood of new members the past 24 hours.
However, we refuse to become the next candy store. As of today, the site policy changes back to how it was in the past.
MAME (related) torrents will be [FREE] and can be used to build up ratio.
The rest will become regular torrents.
No more candy.
We even (strongly) consider going back to a MAME only site again.Torrents with no leechers have already been changed to regular.
The rest have been disabled until they have no more leechers.
This way people can either stop or finish them, without them adding download statistics.
Warning: there will be a time limit until we change them to regular and enable them again.** -
@stuart2773 yes, i'd certainly like to look into those. Although, first things first. I'm currently grappling with the fun project of mapping the joystick & buttons. Lots of threads obviously on this one, and I'm making my way through them, but it's still a bit confusing. I'll certainly come back to those images once I get the controls figured out. If you have any favorite threads on controller mapping (using DragonRise USB), I'm all ears. Thanks again for all the community help! Much appreciated!

@cvanwesep I have a DragonRise controller adapter, too. The controller setup isn't rocket science. The third value after each button in the
/opt/retropie/configs/daphne/dapinput.ini
is the button number plus one. So, to map button 1 of your joystick to button 1 in daphne, the entry in dainput.ini must read:KEY_BUTTON1 = 306 97 2
Value 2 means "joystick button 1" (plus one). The first two numbers are keyboard mappings, you can just ignore them for the joystick, but they must remain there to make the button number the third one!
You can find out your joystick's button numbers by running this command in the Retropie console you land in by pressing F4 in Emulation Station:
jstest /dev/input/js0
js0
is joystick 0. For another joystick, just change it to its number (js1, js2, etc.) You can then press any button on your stick and see which number of the jstest output changes. You can exit the test by pressingctrl
+c
, and return to Emulation Station by entering the commandexit
in the console. -
@clyde Thanks for the info. Yes, I had gotten that far, but my real challenge is in figuring out what number to assign to the joystick directions. All the buttons seem to map to the ports that I've plugged them into on the board, so that part is straight forward. But when I run the test, the joystick side of the test (left) shows a potential for 6 axes, but only two light up - 0 and 1. When I push left, the "zero" shows a value of 32,767 and when I push right, that same cell shows -32,767. When I push up, the "one" shows a value of 32, 767 and when I push down I get -32,767. So I was hoping that four different axes would each light up and I could add some modifier to each of the numbers 1-6 to get to the value Daphne would recognize, that doesn't seem to be the case. I'll even go into the game to try to map values that way and when I think I know for sure and remap the numbers, then the new values don't always deliver the result I thought they would.
The whole concept is easy, but I'm missing something on the details, because executing it all seems a lot harder than it should be. :)
What numbers do you have your joystick set to? Maybe those are the same for mine?

What numbers do you have your joystick set to? Maybe thosThe joystick numbers can be completely ignored unless you want buttons to move you in directions.
The code will pick up hats(digital) or analogue automatically. The problem with the original code is it only works with digital hats and the buttons are assigned to teh default gpx as well so that can causde issues. The patch i made for this fixes that all that up.
