Game(s) you hate with a passion

@clyde said in Game(s) you hate with a passion:
SS2 is much more modern in this way, especially if upgraded with some of the many fan patches which replace its models and textures with more detailed ones, or fix some leftover bugs
The Steam or GOG version should include all those patches and fixes. Highly recommended for any Bioshock fans. The recently released Prey claims to be a successor to the Shock games and looking at it you can see the similarities, but I don't think it manages to create the immersion and the atmosphere from the previous titles. Haven't got around to play it, but played/replayed the others.

According to this post in the GOG forum, the GOG build "has a few fixes for the most critical orig bugs, like that Rick quest not completing. whatever wasn't critical, was left alone."
You'll still have to use the SS2tool and/or Shock2 Community Patch (SCP) on the GOG build if you want their enhancements, too.

Duke Nukem Forever. Pre-ordered, paid full price. It was in the bargain bin within a couple of months. The only thing that got me as far as I did in the game was nastalgia. Never did finish it.
Also, really wanted SMB3 but a Caldor's store had none in stock and settled for Silent Service. Just couldn't get into it, especially after seeing SMB3 in The Wizard movie, but still not being able to try it!

@bizzar721 SMB3 is to this day one of the greatest games ever made for an 8-bit system.

@victimrlsh I fondly remember awaiting the release of SMB3. In my country it was schedueled for late summer or autumn. It was summer vacation and we had already seen pictures and read about the game. It looked amazing. Rumors about one guy already having the game started circulating the neighbourhood. Rumour had it that the guys dad had brought it from abroad (no idea how that would have worked with territorial lock out). When we started thinking about it nobody had seen the guy for a while. Now we were sure this guy was camped up inside, playing one of the best games ever. The whole thing culminated in me and several other guys camping in the staiwell outside the door of the SMB3 guys apartment. We were trying to peek through the mail slot but didn’t see or hear anything. We had to quit around five o’clock out of fear for the parents coming home from work. I never learned if the guy actually had the game beforehand or if he just was at summer camp or something. Later, when I could have asked him, I was too busy playing my own copy of SMB3. It was just as great as we had been expecting it to be.

@m2306 I remember seeing "The Wizard" when it was in the theatre for the first time. SMB3 on the big screen was a drool moment. It seemed like forever for that game to come out.
I also remember in school, all through elementary and even high school, how much fun it was to bring in our backpacks the latest gaming magazines and huddle around & start talking about the latest games that were coming out, usually not until x-mas.
Always loved the Post-E3 & holiday issues, they were like Sears Catalogs that I could look at over and over.

Hmm, my most hated game? Probably had to be Sonic 2 for the Game Gear/SMS. The first boss pissed me off so much because it never clicked how to beat him.
As far as recently, RUST has to be the worst game I've played. It's unoptimized and unfun when the other people immediately mob you and kill you.

@sgtjimmyrustles Yes! Those annoying balls that jumped down the slope.. now that was some difficulty spike.

Yu-Gi-Oh: Forbidden Memories for the PS1.
The card game was really fun as a kid, and it started off great! You could combine cards to summon more powerful monsters. But then they made the game IMPOSSIBLE without some SERIOUS grinding or cheating.
Your most powerful card had MAYBE 2000 attack, and the strongest combination monster you could make had 2800 attack, meanwhile the AI opponents would have 5000, 9000 attack power!
That game really pissed me off, I don't know why they made a kids fucking card game so impossible... -
@madmodder123 HIS ATTACK POWER IS OVER 9000!!!
(sorry, someone had to, you set yourself up for that one...)

Corpse Killer on MegaCD+32X
I just remembered a game I hate, but it is not only the game itself, it is the hardware also which lead to. I was a poor child and was proud to have a Game Boy, NES, SNES and the Mega Drive/Genesis all together. And when I hear about the Mega CD, I quickly wanted to have it. And then the 32X also released. It took me long to get that and man was I proud about those console extensions. I knew that new hardware don't automatically does better gameplay, but what I got was worse than almost anything else (only Rise of the Robots was worse). Don't forget, it was a time before the Internet.I got Corpse Killer for a few bucks. The package got me excited for some reason, the realistic graphics and in combination with the hardware, this was a real killer game in theory. So, I went home with the game, put all puzzle peaces together, Mega Drive + Mega CD extension + 32X extension! That must blow my mind! And it did, but in opposite direction!! Words alone can't describe this failure, watch the below YouTube footage yourself. This is probably the second most hated game to me.

@thelostsoul It's like they were trying for the so-bad-it's-good vibe but didn't get past the BAD part...
-
@thelostsoul Corpse Killer!
Yes, the Genesis + Sega CD + 32X was unwieldy at best. That game was so much fun in a "B" movie way. It's bad now. It was "not great" then. The stereotypes are what they are. The acting and plot are amusing.
-
@IanDaemon The cutscenes in the video were pure cheese and quite amusing. The gameplay looked godawful.
-
@IanDaemon Yeah off course it is fun in a B-movie way. If you expect that, then you can have a lot of fun with friends. But I was expecting high quality stuff like Donkey Kong Country (quality wise, not gameplay) where the graphics really stand out and aren't cheap. I got the famous Mega Drive console with the power house of 32x and CD.
The fun thing is, watching the video from my comment, the same game Corpse Killer exists as a CD only version too which does not require 32X. And that guy say that he don't see any difference.
-
@thelostsoul There actually was a small difference in the number of colors in video footage. Not a huge difference. I think I found a comparison video online somewhere. Oh sorry. I was thinking of the Sega CD vs Sega Saturn video comparison of that game:
-
@IanDaemon Wow, I even didn't know that it had a Saturn version. O.o

Without question, the Super Nintendo version of Race Drivin' is easily the worst "game" I ever played.
The arcade version at the time was amazing, but this version was unplayable. Horrid framerate made it impossible to drive, but even if you could stay in the road for 10 seconds, you'd crash for unknown reasons.
Just a shame. Maybe an FX chip could have salvaged this nightmare.
-
@roslof OMFG that game was given to me as a gift, and I am REALLY glad I didn't buy it. I had the opposite problem, there was a pattern that made the game so easy it was unplayable. No joy in that game. Complete garbage.

M.U.S.C.L.E. for the NES.
I love a good wrestling game. I hated this... you do the math. ;)
World Championship Wrestling was great! Tag Team Wrestling I didn't hate but it was unplayable to my 14 year old self without a rapid fire button of some type. Pro Wrestling was fun. My favorite was Tecmo Wrestling.
It's so bad I have to say it a couple times.
