      Hello!

As far as i read it should be possible to edit the autostart.sh and ad a command line to directly boot into the screensaver (picture slideshow).

But unfortunatly i cant find any code....

Are you referring to the Emulationstation slideshow screensaver or to a different program ?

Not sure what exactly you want but this might work for ya: https://www.raspberrypi-spy.co.uk/2017/02/how-to-display-images-on-raspbian-command-line-with-fbi/
you could have it launch that when emulationstation starts and then set up a script to look for button inputs to close the slideshow when you want to use the Pi

            @mitu

Yes i think slideshow screensaver would be the best option because i want to use local network resources for the pictures.

@berndschroed In this case, configure the slideshow screensaver in Emulationstation, you can point to a custom folder where the images should be found, and set up a small timeout period (1min) before it starts. It will not start immediately, but 1 min is good enough.

right, i know this option, but i dont want to wait for the screensaver because i mainly want to use my setup as a digital picture Frame....

Then remove Emulationstation from the equation and start your own slideshow program - before Emulationstation. You can edit the autostart.sh file - https://retropie.org.uk/docs/FAQ/#how-do-i-boot-to-the-desktop-or-kodi - and add your own program.

Ok, if i understand right. (i am a german)

you think best option would be:

Install a normal retropi setup und configure everthing.
than install fbi (seems to work with network resorces (i found a good german how to))
after that kill autostart of emulation station in autostart.sh and get fbi start on boot.

as far as good but if i do so will i be able to start emulation station via gampad connected via bluetooth because this should be the only input option on my system.

i think this will not work because fbi doesent "know" gampads right?

@berndschroed No, I said add your program before the emulationstation command. That way, when you exit your slideshow program, Emulationstation will start. Once started, you can go back by rebooting the system.
How you make fbi to exit when you press your gamepad - I don't know. See what options fbi has for this or wrap it around a script that knows how to interpret your gamepad buttons and sends an exit command to the slideshow program.

sounds verry complicated beacause my coding skills are verry limited (i only know ardino a little bit)...

i have another idea: do you know since when the "countdown" for the slideshow screensaver starts? Maybee it would ba an option to use my own (very) long splash screen video, so that the slideshow is already on when the video ends?

unfortunatly i dont have a raspberry to test it on my own but maybee you know what i am talking about

I think the minimum is 1 min, which you can set in the ES configuration.

I don't think that would work, since the screensaver is started after ES 'works' for at least 1 min.
