The 'F-Zero Final' project aims to combine all the available classic sprite-based F-Zero content together into one ROM. This is a pretty big deal for fans of the series, as it'll allow all the cars and tracks from 'BS F-Zero Grand Prix 1-2' to be played virtually anywhere without the need for special Satellaview emulation. Ultimately, the cars and tracks from the GBA games will also be added. Here is a link discussing the project in more detail. Also, for anyone interested, the game will be tested today on Twitch (channel ultranetsnes) at 2:00 EST, alongside a utility that will allow it to be played verses other players online.

Same here. At one time I had the original game fully mastered and completed. I'm really looking forward to this hack. What's more is the same people have developed a level editor that they plan on releasing soon as well. Previously, all 'F-Zero' hacks were limited only to altering existing track layouts. To my understanding, with this new tool, it should allow for new cars and whole circuits to be designed. If that's true, then the addition of the 'BS F-Zero Grand Prix' content is only the beginning. In a few years time we could have hundreds of new tracks and car designs.

I may be misunderstanding your question, but if you're asking how the content is implemented to the original ROM, I believe both the original 'F-Zero' and 'BS F-Zero Grand Prix 2' ROMs need to be present while a tool is run. However, I'm not really sure.

Looks like this was finally released to the public today. I just tested the patch and it works very well. This series has always been a favorite of mine and I've waited years to play 'F-Zero Grand Prix 2', so I'm very jazzed. Time to break out the good Scotch and set some new records.

It's a blast. I've played several different hacks over the years, but it's wild to be playing new Nintendo designed tracks after all these years. A whole new 'Ace' league is added that is of course meant to be the successor to the 'King' league. It's really tough, but very well designed. One particular element that you won't find in any of the hacks are new hovercars. You can access them by pressing either of the two top L/R buttons at the vehicle select screen. I've always used Wild Goose, but I'm really liking the new Fire Scorpion.

If you're on a Linux machine, you can also patch it with the included script, so long as you have a recent version of Wine installed. I did it from a Mac, but I always keep a virtual machine handy running a low-overhead 64-bit Windows XP for just these types of scenarios.

@mediamogul this is so great its hard to find words! I think f-zero means alot to many many people and these guys make available what back in the days was clearly impossible to ever even see or play at all for most kids like myself. (only those living in japan and simultanously owning special hardware could play it)
This hack puts everything in such a satisfying best-of-all way there is really nothing left to ask for.

They're really moving along at an impressive rate. I can't wait to see how FZEdit is used in the future. Off the top of my head, it'd be great to see Mario Kart tracks added. If it ever happened that hovercars could be added and edited, you could even put together a somewhat proper crossover.

@mediamogul First I wasn't much interested in this, as I just saw it as an unfinished mod. But looking further, it is quite ambiguous, even with a new editor written for this project. The whole idea having all tracks and "cars" in a single game is intimidating. And the modding scene will start new projects with this editor too, so future is bright.

Just a heads up to anyone hoping to use this hack when you get round to patching it use the XKAS 0.6 from smwcentral linked in the patches readme and not the one from romhacking was having issues with my initial patch having garbled graphics due to opcode erros turns out the smwcentral one is an unnofficial fixed version which corrects this

thought id give folks a heads up as this is a fantastic hack
