I'm a controller junkie and love trying out new devices. I would like to try out using the SNES and NES classic controllers on the Pi to compare them to other options. This, obviously, requires an adapter.

I can find several such adapters on the US Amazon store, but I was wondering if anyone had done this specifically. Is there anyone out there who has gotten this to work well? If so, which particular adapters are Pi friendly?

      Thanks!

@beldar I've found only good things for the Raphnet adapters. They're appear as regular adapters, so no driver is necessary. I have ordered some of them myself, but they haven't arrived yet. The owner behind the store (Raphaël Assénat) has submitted a few times patches to the Linux kernel in support of his work (and not only) and is actively supporting them.

I think it's the best option for Linux/Pi support, but you could wait until I get mines and report back. Or maybe some other forum member has them and could share his/her opinion.

@Beldar raphnet-tech usb adapters or a mayflash dolphinbar if you want to use a wiimote with the classic controllers plugged into that. Raphnet makes phenomenal adapters. I have the ones you want and like all of his adapters they are top notch. I have gotten about 20 different adapters from him and all worked great. And as mitu said he has submitted linux kernel patches. I had issues with controls on his 4 controller 4nes4snes adapter where it was stuck with the d-pad stuck in the north west position and you had to be able to press a button on all four controllers to get it to stop. I contacted him about it. He then created the linux patch that not only fixed the problem on his adapter but hundreds of other controllers as well. Great guy. Shipping can take up to two weeks depending on the situation. Be patient. He has never missed an order for me.

I'm confused. Your title asks for Wii U adapters, but you talk about (S)NES controllers. Which ones are you asking for exactly? Or am I missing something?

However, my wireless Wii U Pro clones from Qumox work perfectly with a Mayflash Wireless Wii U Pro adapter, if that's a valid "other option" you mentioned.

edit: damn those pesky typos. :P

@clyde It's about the SNES/NES classic controllers, which have the same connector type as the Wii U classic controllers. If you look at the page I posted, you'll see the list of supported controllers.

@mitu Ah thanks, I didn't know that. A day of learning something new was worth getting up in the first place. ;)

Thank you for the replies everyone. I am probably going to go for the two port Mayflash adapter. The Raphnet stuff does look higher quality to be sure, but it's also double the price and on back order.
