My brother recently gave me his retropie and after I updated and rebooted the system, it brought me straight to the command prompt without loading emulation station. I felt stupid because it was working fine before I messed around and tried to update it. I have typed "emulationstation" into the command line and hit enter, nothing. I went to change the boot up options as well and nothing works. I am a total NOOB and just want to get this thing working so I can enjoy the games. Is it normal for the console not to load properly after an attempted update? Please help!

See this topic for an explanation. Because of the update, the auto-login doesn't work. So you just have to explicitly login and then type sudo raspi-config to configure auto-login again. Reboot after the configuration and your RetroPie should start again Emulationstation on boot.
