I'm looking at trying to get a BBC Model B emulator working on retropie 4.4, however I can't find much info and what I can find is very complex and way over my head.

Does anyone know if such a thing as a newbies guide on how to install a Beeb emulator exists?
    Thank you

Short answer: no. I've been trying to make headway on this for days. Both of these topics are still on the front page:

Thanks, I guess I'll give it a miss then, I did check out that top thread before even posting this but woah it's very complex. I'll stick to using BeebEm on my PC, which is a shame, it would be awesome on my picade as I got my bluetooth kb working fine and it's superb for the spectrum games.

No need to give up outright. Sometimes these things just take a little time to understand, but it's all the more rewarding in the end when you get it going. I'd recommend experimenting first with no expectations and if you fail, come back here and ask whatever questions you need to. We're always happy to help. Also, do it in your own time. Even if it takes you a week or two of occasional tries here and there, it's still better than never having it at all.

@mediamogul Do you have any idea why I can't get any inputs to register? Everything else is working, I'm nearly there.

@SpudsMcToole are you configuring the controls inside a bbc game? If not try setting up in lr-mess.

@edmaul69 "are you configuring the controls inside a bbc game?"

No, because the keyboard won't recognise any inputs so pressing Tab gets me nowhere.

"If not try setting up in lr-mess"

I have no idea what that means in practice. (I tried hitting a button during startup to select another emulator, but advmess was the only option it offered me, even though I'm 99% certain I have lr-mess installed.)

@SpudsMcToole In the advmess.rc there is an option to make all keyboards seen as the first keyboard. @mediamogul knows what the option is. The issue is your controllers or mice can be seen as a keyboard as well. I have a mouse hooked up that is recognized as a mouse, controller and keyboard. Causes a big mess with advmess.

@SpudsMcToole you also could plug your keyboard into usb port 0 and then boot up the pi.

Hmm. I tried removing the lines

                      device_joystick auto
                      device_mouse auto

(the docs say they're disabled by default without those lines), but it made no difference - the joystick still worked for getting rid of the "OK" prompt, but the keyboard didn't.

To do that, you'll want to set device_keyboard raw.

Thanks for the help, I really do appreciate it, however I must be a super-dummy as that 'guide' is just far too complex for me, I couldn't even find the config file it says to edit lol. anyway thanks again but I've given up on retropie and the BBC.

@Stevezx81 You have to create it yourself. Just open a new document in the folder then save it with the name I gave you.
