ES Themes Menu Revision
-
There are currently 136 themes listed in the es themes menu(RetroHursty69 is looking to add 101 more https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/pull/2557). It already takes roughly 30 seconds for me to scroll all the way to the bottom of the list using a controller. I think there are some improvements that could be made to the menu system with or without the additional 101 themes. These are ideas I have had in the past, but there weren't nearly as many themes back then, so the usefulness of the revision was less.
The menu could have larger categories to first filter themes by, so the user wouldn't have to spend so much time scrolling through an ever growing list.
- Separate themes by author. Select an author and see all the themes they have created.
- Separate themes by intended resolution. There are several themes intended for small screens, themes intended for 4x3 displays. There's even a theme for a vertical display.
- Normal vs Light themes. Some themes were created to use very little memory, but they don't support all the systems.
- Video vs Non-Video mode supported themes. Pretty much all new themes support video mode by default, but there are still some older ones that don't.
- Wheel art vs Non-wheel art. Only two themes I know of that specify this are made by TMNTturtleguy
I'm not claiming these are good ideas or that they could or should be implemented easily. My goal is to try and draw clearly distinct categories for which the list could be broken down into. Let me know what you think: should the list be broken down into categories? If so, how should it be broken down?

I don't have any particular suggestions other than I agree something could/should be improved in the theme menu.
Another suggestion would be a culling to keep well maintained themes and leaves the others to an auxillary script.

I think this is a good option as well.

I also like this idea.
