The PAL version seems to have copy copy protection - do you have an additional .sbi file for the game ?

@zuuzuu I'm trying to find out and reproduce your problem. Could be that one can be produced, but I don't play PS1 games on the Pi so I'll need to dig into this a bit.

@zuuzuu This is the Formula One 2001 you are talking about, correct?

If so, I can tell you that I did not encounter a black screen after the loading screen and was able to get in-game, however, controls did not work correctly and the game was unplayable. Best guess is that this is an example of PCSX Rearmed's overall emulation accuracy of 15.8% not emulating something correctly, which might possibly be triggering a built-in copy protection unrelated to the .sbi file copy protection (this game does not employ it).

These results were produced with a verified Redump copy of the game. Various methods to achieve a playable game were tried including changing the controller type, turning off the dynamic recompiler, turning off v-sync, and turning on bilinear filtering.

@mitu The .sbifiles can be obtained from Redump.

Regardless, I don't believe this form of copy protection is the issue here.

@MajorDangerNine I was checking earlier and the the game doesn't have a .sbi, so most likely the emulation might be not up to par in this game. I didn't yet booted the game to test though.

@mitu If I had to guess, the initial issue appears to be a bad copy of the game, while my testing with an essentially perfect copy showcased that emulator wasn't up to the task of emulating the game.

@zuuzuu I was able to test a verified Redump copy of Formula One 2000 as well and experienced the same black screen result as you.

@MajorDangerNine I tried also Formula One 99 and 2000 after you said. Same black screen problem. After a while i found another 2001 versions with different file size. As you said game is opened. But car just jumped and not playable.

I tried also ppf-o-matic3.exe to solve my problem. But i dont have any success steps yet. By the way sbi file is directly downloadable for Formula One 99 for Europe version. As i said still i can't play my childhood game :S

Not on the PI though, but there are other options if you'd like to.

@zuuzuu As alternative options, try to

                        • get a PS1 or a PS2, there's a PS2 version of the game and check PS1 games compatibility for the model for other PS1 games.
                        • run a PC emulator like Mednafen or Beetle PSX HW.

                          Hello guys.
I've encountered the exact same problem with ALL f1 games for ps1. 2001 version is unplayable, and others get stuck in the first screen, right after "ea games challenge everything..." Did you guys manage to fix or at least identify the problem?
I tried also an android emulator and got the exact same result.... That's sad, I have plenty of ps1 games on my raspberry, and they all work great...
