Game-HAT s buttons not working

Hi I have recently got a Waveshare game hat for my pi 3+. I am relatively new to the pi and to everything related to it. I have retropie 4.4 and the appropriate driver downloaded onto the sd card, the screen works perfectly showing the Retropie logo and you can use the Game hat to change the screen and audio settings. The one thing I can’t fathom out is why the mini joystick or any of the buttons to play a game with don’t work. It works fine with a keyboard connected. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

You'll need to make sure that the mk_arcade_joystick_rpi module is loaded and configured properly. I found BuZz's setup post useful.
