Input Remaps won't apply (Core or Game, FCEUmm or QuickNES)

Pi Model or other hardware: 3B+
Power Supply used: Pro-Elec 5.25V/2.4A
RetroPie Version Used: 4.4
Built From: Pre made SD Image on RetroPie website, retropie-4.4-rpi2_rpi3.img
USB Devices connected: Keyboard, Mouse, Gamepad (see below)
Controller used: PowerA PS3/PC Gamepad. Have also used two different knockoff PS2-style USB controllers.
Emulator: FCEUmm and QuickNES both show this issue.I'm brand new to RetroPie and the Pi scene, and am working to get my Pi running Retropie. I've had a good bit of luck doing so, but I am not content with the NES button mappings. I keep going into retroarch's options with Hotkey+X and changing the various presented controller (not keyboard, I've left that alone) options so that the NES' B button will correspond to Y(left) on the Retropad, and so NES' A will correspond to B(down) on the retropad.
I've saved it as a core remap, I've saved it as a game remap, I've loaded the remap files I made, I've rebooted, I've changed controllers, and have even switched which emulator I am using. At no point has any effort to remap the gamepad buttons make any difference. The controller inputs are the same.
Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong or what's up? The various tutorials I've seen and research I've done indicate that this should be working.

My apologies. After posting this, I got the idea to remove the keyboard and mouse, which I should have done to start with. Once I did that, I realized that it was listing User 1's Keyboard and Gamepad bindings together before, and I was only editing User 2 on. Fixed my own problem, and it works now.
Sorry for the newbie blunder. Hardly a good way to join the forums!

@MM007 It happens. I've come to realize that about five minutes after I request help I'll almost always figure out the solution.
