ROM File Management Best Practices
-
Hello All..
I have a little over 4K worth of roms in my collection in which I want to permanently remove a lot of them. The file names are a little ambiguous and when I uploaded to RetroPie, the interface only displays the true name of the game, but doesn't show the associated file name. With that many ROMs, its hard to determine a lot of times which file I need to delete if I don't want the game.
Is there anyway in Retropie that it will not only display the true name of each game, but also the file name on the SD card?
Is there any utilities that are out there made for Windows if it cannot be done in Retropie?
thanks

@tdelios press select when in the gamelist in emulationstation and you can see the filename if you go to edit metadata. and you can also delete it from there as well. I would be cautious with mame games though as some require parent roms in order to work.

Great tip!! Not if the MAME set is a split romset, though, yes? It was my understanding that in split romsets each zip file has everything necessary to run the current game?

@codinghorror no, only non-merged sets have everything. see https://github.com/retropie/retropie-setup/wiki/Managing-ROMs#step-5--rebuild-a-rom-set
