Do you need a GPU for retropie?
-
Hello!
I apologize if this has been asked a thousand times before but I would like to get into emulation and retropie by building a mini iTX pc with these specs:https://www.happywheels.vip/
i5 6600kTweakbox
16gb of RAM
Streacom F1C
The case doesn't have space for a GPU though, so my question is, if I want to play N64/PS2 games, do I need a GPU or will the integrated graphics of the 6600k be sufficient?
I did try to look it up on retropie and dolphin's websites but english is not my native language and I'm very new to this so it was a bit confusing! https://vlc.onl/
Thank you :) -
Retropie i believe is only for raspberry pi??? Unless im wrong??
You can download something like launchbox for pc that is similar and is for PC
And no you dont need a gpu you can still play alot of snes,nes,sega,etc.. -
@RetroFreak89 you're wrong. Retropie runs on Debian based distros. I have it running on two of my laptops.
Obviously it will run better on more taxing emulators with dedicated gpu. Try it and see.

Is it possible i can turn my desktop into a retro emulation console??
So when i turn it on itll be ES and not windows...Sorry didnt mean to steal the topic but it doesnt need its own post for quick question

Yes, you can and thats exactly what i did with my old desktop. Follow the instructions here: RetroPie x86
Youll have to dump windows or dual boot to make it work, but in the end its worth it IMO. Ubuntu 18.04 is a great place to start... -
@elysse77 According to this page and the Dolphin performance page, your integrated GPU should be able to run Dolphin, but I wouldn't expect it to perform well with a 4k Display.
For Ps2, I think the recommended GPU is a generation above the one you have, so you'll probably meet the minimum requirements, but that's probably like running N64 on the PI :). -

Main issue you might encounter is a lack of proper support for the integrated gpu.
