Raspberry pi 3 model b

Occasional usb controller
Updated RetroPie software
Using lr-mame2003 and lr-fbalphaQuestion 1:
I’m in Retro Pie Menu Page in ES, I then push dedicated “A” button on control panel to enter RetroArch GUI (shows “1.7.6 - No Core” on bottom). Once in, I need to press Enter on Keyboard (“A” doesn’t work) to make selections, but I can’t find a button to back out of a selection screen (eg, I go into Settings, then Input...then want to back out to save). The “B” button on my panel doesn’t work and the escape/exit button on the Keyboard takes me all the way out to the RetroPie Menu Page. Is there a way to modify or designate keyboard buttons or is it that you can only the manipulate the GUI with a controller?Question 2:
In lr-mame2003, the Tab button on my keyboard brings up the game menu where I can modify the game/control settings. Tab does not work when playing lr-fbalpha games. Is this normal or do I have a config setting that I need to change? If normal, how do I modify inputs for my controls? RetroArch GUI menu mentioned above?I looked around the forum and haven’t been able to find specific answers to my questions. Thanks!

Try using Z or Backspace on the keyboard to go back (usually mapped to
B
on a gamepad) - see https://docs.libretro.com/guides/rgui/. -
lr-fbalpha
is not a MAME based emulator, it doesn't have a similar menu and Tab will never work. You can customize the key bindings using the RGUI, then save a game remap file - https://retropie.org.uk/docs/RetroArch-Configuration/#core-input-remapping.
