      The Atari 800 emulator configuration settings don't get saved, I've tried [save configuration file] and [save configuration on exit ].

      I wanted to set [disable basic when booting atari] to [no] but it always goes back to [yes] after restarting the emulator.

        @bkumanchik You are using lr-atari800. It uses retroarch configuration for setting a bunch of options, and as part of that, it contains eight or so options. You get to these with Select+X, then Options. These are saved the instant you change them, and will apply core-wide (so will apply to Atari 5200 and Atari 8-bit games). They are saved in /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch-core-options.cfg.

        These eight options override whatever is in the emulator's internal config files, which are stored in /opt/retropie/configs/atari800/atari.cfg. But the emu will actually save these settings, they are just not getting used. All the the rest of the settings in atari800.cfg ARE used.

        Confusing, huh?

        You need to disable BASIC in Retroarch, basically. Either that, or use the script I wrote which is posted in the giant thread on Atari800 emulation.

          I don't see anything for the Atari Emulators in [/opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch-core-options.cfg]

                @rkoster I'm trying to set my default system - wat do I put in side the quotes for an 800XL? I tried [atari800_system = "800XL"] but it's not taking it.

                  @bkumanchik I would edit that using the GUI you reach by hitting Select+X.

                  The only systems that Retroarch recognizes are

                  400/800 (OS B)
                  800XL (64K)
                  130XE (128K)
                  5200

                  So try

                  atari800_system = "800XL (64K)"

                  You can get to way more systems via the F1 menu if you have the BIOSes, but Retroarch will override the system selection in atari.cfg.

                      You're welcome!

                      In general, it is way safer to edit both those files using their respective GUIs. I wouldn't muck about in the text files unless you have to. The RGUI (Select+X) saves instantly when you change an option and exit the menu.
