I have been trying everything to get some neogeo games flicker to go away. The shadow for the characters in Samurai Shodown flickers non stop. It makes me want to have a seizure. I dont know how to fix it! How do I disable the shadows on characters or make the flicker go away?

I am using the default emu, rasp pi 3B+ and latest retropie

I've messed with the ctr but idk out of all the options if one can fix it or what to do?

Please add more info about your setup - https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first. What emulator are you using for the ROM ?

Just happened to come across this, but the shadow flicker you speak of is part of the game. You can't get rid of it as it's intended. The hardware plays the game just the same.

@Kajamaz Flickering is commonly used to fake transparency in games from the 80-90, here they want the floor to be seen "through" the shadow.

@barbudreadmon Would this effect work on a CRT display ?

@mitu This effect is already working as intended, i see no reason for it to render differently on a CRT.

with a CRT display there's a certain amount of image retention which makes these fast flickering shadows appear just as transparent grey, with the floor visible underneath. i thought there's shaders out there that fake the same effect for modern screens, but i can't find them...
