Latest update and PS3 sixaxis controller
-
I have created an image with the newer buster kernel packages which should resolve the issue (I have tested it briefly and the buster kernel/firmware seems compatible).
https://drive.google.com/open?id=1I8ivhFaVJr1_7tBJzAwMA4z-ZrltXp05 (rpi2/3 only)
If this does work for you, I will be pretty much ready to do the RetroPie 4.5 release (and after we will look at moving to buster and adding rpi4 support).
I would be interested in anyone else who can test this to make sure no functionality is broken.

Are you referring specifically to the PS3 controller issue or just general functionality? I would be happy to run it through the paces but don't have a PS3 controller if that's what you were referring to.

@BuZz I can give it a shot later on. Would it be possible to merge the fixes on the ES
dev
branch also to stable ? Particularly this, which fixes the ScreenScraper scraping.
Did you decide to include RetroArch 1.7.7 also ? I know they fixed some of the issues and moved the 1.7.7 tag after those fixes. -
@quicksilver both. General functionality test would be useful also.
-
@mitu re: Emulation Station - will do.
Didn't know they retagged the same version. Confusing. I think due to time we will have to skip it.
-
@mitu updated stable branch of es. Building binaries currently. Thanks.

Regarding this Kernel issue and the mention of Buster, if I upgrade Stretch to Buster, does Retropie works normally and will this issue be addressed? Rephrasing, is Retropie compatible with Raspbian Buster?

Not yet. However, there will be a fix for this soon, when 4.5 will be released - see this announcement.
-
Hi, sorry but, this is fixed in the new version 4.4.16 or is currently needed the downgrade? Thx
EDIT: tested, and not work. Downgrade is required.

You don't need to use the script I posted. Just use the "Update" option from the latest version of RetroPie-Setup (4.4.16 or later) and it'll automatically upgrade the firmware to the version from Raspbian buster that includes the bluetooth fix.
-
@psyke83 Buster? Is it supported already?
-
@TYHO Nope
-
-
@TYHO We are using some packages from Buster for the 4.5 Stretch image to work around the sony bluetooth issue as Stretch hasn't received an official kernel update.
-
It's just been fixed in the latest version that has gone live! Very happy.
-
@BuZz The kernel is updated even if I have a manual installation? I mean, I didn't use a prebuilt image. I just installed Raspbian Stretch and installed Retropie on top of it.
-
@ivooc it will if you use the update function from RetroPie and say yes to update system packages.
-
@BuZz Currently I have placed blocks using the downgrade script.
So if I do the full update through the retropie_setup script (meaning saying YES when it asks to update the underlying OS kernel packages etc.) I will be fine?
Or do I need to run the downgrade script again to unblock the updates and then update through retropie_setup?
-
@hostolis
I believe you can call the downgrade script in three ways.
sudo ./downgrade_firmware.sh downgrade
sudo ./downgrade_firmware.sh block
sudo ./downgrade_firmware.sh unblock
both downgrading and blocking will block updates, if you update from retropie and answer yes then the kernel updates will be blocked.
unless you are referring to a different downgrade script.
