I have my Pi 3 setup, and I added Mario 64 to the N64 emulator. The game was only 6mb which I thought was weird as I would have thought it'd be about 500mb. Anyway, I select the game, the screen goes black, then I get returned to the retropie main menu again.

Is this because I need to overclock?

      Thanks

Which n64 emulator are you trying to use? It tells you when you select the game. If you press whatever is button 0 on the controller at that time you can also change which emulator you are using.

@edmaul69 Not sure at the moment. Do you need to overclocking to play Zelda or any other N64 game? I thought you had to.

@jay81uk there are games that benefit from it but not "required for it to boot. However mario 64 is not one of them.

@edmaul69 Is it dangerous to overclock? I did find a list of games that required this but alot of the games were blanked.

@jay81uk you can find good overclocking settings that take the cpu to about 1350mhz and overclock settings for a whole mess of stuff. Overclocking does nothing for me but it may be because i am powering my hard drive from my pi and the pi 3 might not have the juice to do so.

You need at least a heatsink. I'm planning to do an overclocking project with my Pi soon. I'm going to get a 40MM by 40MM heatsink with a fitting 5V fan.

Well after experimenting tonight, I've found out a few things...

Downloaded N64 roms need to be unzipped from my experience. They won't play straight as the zipped file like all the other roms I download do - weird?

Start/Select doesn't take you back to the main Retropie menu like the other emulators do - any ideas?

The 'Select/Left' save feature doesn't work as it does in the other emu's - is this because you can save like you could do on the N64?

A main annoyance is Mario 64... the right thumb stick doesn't move the camera all the way round, it just moves it a bit - any resolution to this?

Games like Donkey Kong 64 have lag in audio and in movement - will overclocking make this better?

                      Thanks

take that up with shigeru miyamoto as that's how the original game worked :) the c buttons are mapped to the right stick

I seem to remember being able to move the camera around though on the N64. The default controls make the game unplayable on the pi.

@jay81uk by default x should be b and b should be a. As long as you configured your controller in a super nintendo button setup. Which is how it is supposed to be configured.

@edmaul69 How do you move the camera around to see where you're going then? Lol

@jay81uk in the original game you tapped the c buttons to move the camera in increments. in your case you have to move the stick in increments. so you just move it right to go right a bit. then return the stick to centre, and move right again, etc.
