Happy Birthday RetroPie! My thanks to all the devs for making this incredible package, and making it easy to use for all us non-devs. I've had more fun tinkering around with RetroPie on all the versions of the Raspberry Pi, than I've had actually playing games on the things. That quest to create the perfect image, set exactly the way I want it, for each version of the Raspberry Pi has been incredibly enjoyable. So thanks again from a dedicated fan.

When I was a kid I remember this one birthday party where we all got Topps Donkey Kong cards. Some were stickers and others even had a randomized scratch off version of the game where you had to avoid revealing barrels as you worked your way up the building. They were a lot of fun. Anyway, happy birthday RetroPie! you are indeed more fun than a barrel of Donkey Kongs.

How ironical that Retropie does not work with Pi 4 yet. Just kidding :P Nice case :) AND Happy birthday to Retropie! Been a Retropie user for... 2 days now :) Haha!

Long life to the RetroPie project!

I'm going to take this opportunity to talk about the impact this "innocent" gaming project, supposed to be just a hobby, caused on my life and how much I am grateful for that.

                          My gratitude goes to @buzz, @herb_fargus and all other devs/contributors involved here. People like @pjft, @zigurana, @mediamogul, @cyperghost, @obsidianspider, @udb23, @lilbud, @udb23, just to name a few (if I forgot someone, don't worry, I love you too!).

List of things that happened to me thanks to the RetroPie project:

                          • First of all: my english skill improved a lot! I can now communicate fluently with "the internet community" (alright, some gramar mistakes can still happen here and there).

                          • Although I studied Computer Science, the money destiny made me work on other things. RetroPie brought me back to coding. And I loved it!

                          • I improved my shell scripting skills thanks to quality of the code @buzz write for RetroPie. Also I learned to use many cool shell scripting techniques and useful tools (like dialog, xmlstarlet, curl). Also, improved a lot my Regular Expressions knowledge (and RegEx is one of my passions).

                            • I loved to write some little tools to help the artists, EmulationStation hackers, regular users and other crazy guys (cough @Used2BeRX cough) here. And I'm very happy that they find what I did useful. :)
                          • I learned to use git and how to contribute with open source projects (and I'm thankful to the @buzz's grumpy very direct way to say we must be careful with code contributions).

                          • RetroPie made me want to contribute with code for RetroArch (because if the feature you want is not implemented, then implement it and submit a PR!), which brought me back to C coding (and I love C since my teenager days).

                          • RetroPie made me know the RetroAchievements project. And contributing on this feature in the RetroArch front made me write more C code.

                          • Thanks to all this I was invited to join the RetroAchievements leadership and since then I learned/improved a myriad of skills. Namely:

                            • Social skills for community management (handling conflicts and dramas between achievement creators, cheaters, and competitive users, for example)
                            • Web development skills: HTML, CSS, PHP, RESTful transactions, etc.
                            • JavaScript and Node.js, needed to write a discord bot for the RetroAchievements discord server.
                            • @herb_fargus showed me the ropes to generate a nice documentation site with mkdocs, and thanks to him I was able to create the https://docs.retroachievements.org
                          • Last but not least, I made a bunch of international friends!

All of that 👆 thanks to RetroPie!

@meleu Haven't seen you in a while Mel, how ya been?

Like I said in my graduation post. Retropie changed my life too. Led me down a much different path than I had imagined I would be on at this stage of my life. I was supposed to go into engineering in High School and eventually move on to that for college.

But since getting into Retropie, I'm now on the path of: coding, graphic design, and computer science. (Which is what I am going to college for in about a month or so.)

Also, about the english skill, don't feel pressured to get perfectly fluent at the language. Hell, I've been speaking the language for 15 years and I still scerw scrwe screew mess it up.

Congrats to the team! I've used my RetroPie both at retro parties with friends and to play retro games with nieces and nephews. The amount of joy it has brought to me cannot be overstated. Thank you!

Late to the public party here, but happy 7th anniversary and thank you all for having me as a member. It has certainly been a great journey so far and an absolute pleasure and honor to see all the inspiring things everyone in the community comes up with. That's really a testament to the life of the project!

Thanks @meleu for the kind note - glad to see you around, and glad to see you're still involved in the RetroAchievements project! And rooting for you @lilbud in your new adventure in your University years:)

                                Best.
