Retropie Version specifially for the Retroflag GPI Case
-
Hello Retropie Team, do you also plan a Retropie Version specifically for the Retroflag GPI Case?

I've just got a gpi case... Confused as to what this would mean? You can customise retropie and choose your own theme etc....
What benefits would another version of retropie bring?

Probably an OOB configuration for the screen, pre-configured controller configuration(s) for the case's gamepad, an ES theme for the small screen, maybe others. The Recalbox team has done something like this - with an image specifically targeted at the case.
@Cybermen I think @SinisterSpatula has a repository with customizations/configurations for RetroPie in a Retroflag GPI case - https://github.com/SinisterSpatula/RetroflagGpiGuides.

@mitu
exactly. Custom emulators etc. Like the recalbox team. Something is not planned for retropie? -

No, it's nothing planned - but, as @Jste84 mention, configuration/customization is easily handled just from RetroPie. Vendor specific additions (screen & gamepad) are provided by Retroflag - those are the only ones not included in a standard RetroPie install.

@mitu That's what I meant... However I think I've just broken my image by playing about too much 😂 maybe this was a better idea than I initlly thought
Don't suppose there's a way for me to remove an emulator via as into laptop. Pi won't boot anymore 🙄

@Jste84 The screenshot looks like SD corruption, the filesystem on the card cannot be read/mounted. That happens way before any programs start - so removing an emulator won't help here.

@mitu ahh ok. I'll start again 😂😂😂
I tried to download the standalone psx emulator then got this back 😬

There really are a lot of changes that make for a good install of retropie for Gpi. From boot/config.txt changes, to dtbo device tree overlay files (and renaming them to prevent an over-write), to quieting the boot text, to using a custom kernel with a boot logo, to a good splash screen video, to a good theme, to picking the right default emulators, to working around controller input issues with xboxdrv, to configuring proper es_system settings, to many other tweaks and changes. While it may never end up being an official "version" of retropie for Gpi, it really does become difficult to manage every single tweak and change that makes it better for Gpi. The guides might be the best bet for now, and maybe some day scripts can be created from the guides info that can just be run to make all the changes.
