ROM location/Xbox 1 controllers

Two separate questions
-
I am going to attempt a manual install on my Pi 4. I have a question about ROM location. After I format my MicroSD card and get everything all set up, can I pull the card and drop my ROM folders into the root directly of the card? I would like to keep my USP ports free for now. Eventually, once Kodi is working, one of 3.0 ports will have an external HDD.

Is it possible to have an Xbox 1 controller connected to both the Pi 4 and the Xbox 1 via bluetooth if one device remains off while the other is on?

1.- You can write them directly into the SD card if you use Linux. Otherwise the best method is to get a pendrive, plug it into the USB port of a Raspberry running Retropie, and it will create a bunch of folders, one for each system. Then you write the roms to those folders on the PC and then plug it again on the Raspberry.
2.- I'm just gonna leave this here: https://xkcd.com/2055/

- I was hoping to not have to use another USB drive for the roms if I could avoid it. Oh well.
- you obviously haven't tried to use Sync with a ford vehicle.
-
I was just half-joking. I do use my phone with the car and with a wireless headset without needing to pair them every time. But I can't seem to configure the controller to work with the PC and the Raspberry without manually pairing each time I change device.

@bc320 There is an easier way of transferring roms : https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Transferring-Roms/
-
If I understand the link correctly, If I put the ROMs into the Retropi folder that is created and plug it back into the Pi4, the ROMs will automatically be transferred to the SD card. Is this understanding correct?
unrelated to ROMs, but related to file transfers. When I get this all set up (games and Kodi) and I want to add the the external HDD from another storage device, can I plug the 2nd storage device into the Pi4 then transfer the files to the other HDD? For example (using windows explorer descriptions), the external HDD that is always attached to the Pi4 we will call D. The new one will be E. If plug E into the Pi4, can I easily transfer files from various folders within E to various folders within D?

You can use the File Manager (
mc
) and transfer files from one device to the other, as long as the disks are seen by Linux - which shouldn't be a problem. -
@ByteThis
How long is the light supposed to blink on USB drive? Mine has been slowly blinking for about 45 mins and created no folders.Could this be because this is a nightly build to work on Pi 4?

Could be, but if you have the HDD permanently connected to the Pi, then the manual set-up method is better.

I don't have a HDD attached at this time. I won't until Kodi is operational on the Pi 4. I had to use the manual set up to get emulationstation up and running. I am not sure it fully took. I looked under "retroarch" in the menu and see no core, even after I have installed cores.
