My Retropie is not autostarting
-
I had this after I did an update. For some reason it lost the autologin
Attach a keyboard and login with user: pi and your password
Go to Retropie menu. raspi-config
Option 3 Boot options
Option B1 Desktop / CLI
Option B2 Console Autologin -
Thanks

@JamieP, I have tried this about three times and it still will not auto load the EmulationStation. I just keep getting the command line. Any ideas on what I can do?

@KC9EZP Are there any errors or other messages (besides the Retropie ASCII logo and the system specs right next to it)?
Please show us the contents of the file
/opt/retropie/configs/all/autostart.sh
. This command will display the file in the command line:cat /opt/retropie/configs/all/autostart.sh
It should look like this to start ES automatically:
emulationstation #auto

@Clyde , I do not see any errors when it boots. I just get the slash screen and then the prompt to log in. I tried the command line that you mention but it doesn't work. I did do some searching for the file and i did find it through windows explorer under \GAMESATION\configs\all and it did have "emulationstation #auto" in it.
Any other ideas or is there something that I am doing wrong. I am ssh into, should I be doing this from the pi?

@KC9EZP If you updated your OS, the autologin might not function - see https://retropie.org.uk/docs/FAQ/#why-emulationstation-doesnt-start-automatically-after-an-update.

@mitu, I have tried that multiple times from a ssh window. Is this something that I need to do directly from the PI itself?

No, whatever you do directly on the Pi can be done via SSH. What version of RetroPie are you using ? Adding more info about your system might help narrow the problem - https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first.

Were there any error messages? It's better to quote the whole output of a shell command, or mention that there wasnt't any, than just to say that it doesn't work (general advice).
\GAMESTATION\configs\all
doesn't sound like the official retropie image, whose Samba hostname is\\RETROPIE
. Did you change the hostname, or do you use a third-party image like GameStation Turbo?I'm asking because third-party images are not supported here, as they can differ more or less from the official image and thus, creating errors that won't occur with the latter. If this is the case, you should try the official image and see if the problem exists there, too.

@Clyde, this is a co-workers unit and he couldn't remember all of the details about it but I think that you are correct about it being a non official retropie image. It had a very out-dated version and when I updated everything is where the issue happened. I will talk with him at work Monday, explain what happened and let him know that I will set him up with an official copy.
Thanks to all that offered help with this issue.
