Re: how to add slideshow to emulation station

I can't seem to find this filepath to drop my .jpegs in for a custom screensaver.

      /home/pi/.emulationstation/slideshow/image

This is probably a dumb question. The screenshot is the highest folder it will let me access from my PC. I was having trouble doing a custom filepath because I'm using an American keyboard and couldn't get it to switch from the UK layout.

\RETROPIE is the highest folder I can get into.

The /home/pi/.emulationstation/slideshow/image folder can be found via file shares as \\retropie\configs\all\emulationstation\slidehow\image.

That should be easily done via raspi-config, how did you try to change the layout ?

@mitu I got as far as \emulationstation but there's no \slideshow folder. I should just be able to create that plus the subfolder, right? I tried switching the keyboard layout through raspi-config but I didn't understand the regional options that popped up and honestly I didn't spend much time on it.

My screen was previously just going to black when set to slideshow with the custom folder but now it's just showing a white box. I'm using .jpeg images I did in Photoshop with the quality turned up so each one is about 2-3 MB apiece. Should I re-save them and turn the quality down for smaller file sizes? Is there some kind of specific formatting I should use when saving?

Make sure the resolution isn't some huge value - a HD/1080p image should be enough.

@mitu They're all 11x17 documents at 300 PPi. Should I redo them to something smaller?

11x17 inches at 300 pixels per inch.

@TheGodMiklos According to Google, that's 3300 x 5100 pixels - if it's true that's way too much for what the Pi is capable of displaying in a single image. As I said, try to fit your image into 1920x1020 pixels and see if it's displayed correctly.

Okay, I guess that's what happens when I set up a document that's meant for print. I'll try that after work and let you know how it worked out.

I got the screensaver to work fine, but I had another question. I put a bunch of roms in the arcade folder that were previously working fine and now none of them want to play. I was starting a new card for an arcade cabinet with Retropie 4.4 that I updated before dropping any roms onto it, and when trying to load a game from the 'Arcade' tab for the first time I think I told it to use the wrong emulator. How can I reset the default emulator and which one should I use?

You can use the Runcommand launch menu to choose the emulator - https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Runcommand/#runcommand-launch-menu. As for which one to use, that depends on on your MAME ROM set version - https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Arcade/.
