The best solution for Sega Megadrive/Genesis Mini on Raspberry Pi
-
Hello to all. This thread does not apply to RetroPie in any way, but nevertheless, it somehow touches the topic that many are interested in. I hope I do not violate the rules of the forum by posting this topic here.
Many on this forum have requested the theme of Sega Megadrive/Genesis Mini. Many have begin development. I, too, was no exception, and released a mega pi theme. But as many people know, the possibilities of RetroPie themes are very limited, so I decided to modify the Blast16. It already has everything that is needed - emulation of all platforms of the Sega up to the 4th generation, animations and useful scripts. It was only necessary to change the appearance.
Thanks to the help of the Tripware (providing tools and advice) I managed to achieve what I wanted. You can see the result of my work in this video.
SCREENSHOTS:
As you can see, this is an almost complete copy of the Sega Megadrive/Genesis Mini. UI. There are only a couple of differences - a horizontal carousel for games and a complete lack of metadata.
Almost all the graphics were drawn by me from scratch. I tried to repeat every detail of the Sega Megadrive/Genesis Mini, and I believe that I managed to achieve this.INCLUDED LANGUAGES:

I tested this for several days and did not find any serious problem. If you find any error, please write about it here.
Have a nice day!

@frgn Maybe give the pegasus frontend a try? I have zero experience with it (I was doing trial and error editing its stock theme), but with help from the dev I got it looking like this (nothing fancy, I just removed the left panel):
-
@Darksavior I have never heard of this front end, but he looks interesting. when I have free time, I will probably study it. but I do not promise anything.
-
Amazing job @frgn! I've been doing some testing and MD/GEN & SMS work like a charm :-)
However adding MCD/SCD (jewelcase format covers) it all works just fine until it tries to show a CD cover, crashing and popping this error message instead of displaying it properly. Could it be the different image size? It works just fine on Blast16.

@Ulmez
Thanks for the feedback! :)
The thing is that initially I did it for personal use. In my assembly of roms for each system, I took the same proportions of box art. Therefore, I removed the "extra" elements intended for squared box art.
I recommend you just redo all the square covers in megadrive format, that is - 230x320
In the future, I will most likely return the missing elements so that different cover formats can be used. -

@Ulmez
I added the missing frames and now everything works, however, the selector of the selected game (which is not in blast16) is displayed in strictly specified proportions of 230x320 even when the square cover is selected. Therefore, I had to remove it.
If you are satisfied with such a solution, then here is the link to the new update.
I think over time I can find a way to solve this. -
Fantastic! Now it works without problems. Many thanks! As a suggestion / contribution: How about putting the cursor in this way? It respects the style of Mega Drive Mini, adapts to all covers and looks better than nothing :-D

@Ulmez Done. The link in the previous post has been updated.

It's simply perfect!! Thanks! :D

A small update. Added the ability to change the NTSC filter from the settings, as well as many small corrections.

@frgn hello. Thanks for the great work! I would like to inform you that I found some english translation errors. In the Menu. In Audio section theres a misspell "Aduio" and in the Display mode: "Standart" instead of "Standard"

@Nojito
Thank! Fixed. -
I’m surprise nobody figure out how to run other emulators using blast16. Even loading cores in retroarch is impossible. 😢
