    When I setup my system, there wasn't a Genesis folder. I copied all of my Genesis ROMs to the Megadrive folder. Once I restarted EmulationStation, everything showed up as it should. The only problem is that, now, I do have a Genesis folder. I have my original Megadrive folder and a Genesis folder, and my ROMs all show up in both folders, basically wasting space. The problem is, I have no idea which folder RetroPie is actually using and if it's OK for me to delete one or the other of them.

    Have any of you seen this before? Does anyone have any advice? Can I get rid of one of these folders?

    Thanks.

      @bfollowell the genesis folder is a symbolic link. as in, it's a shortcut to your megadrive folder, and not duplicating any data. you could prove that by copying a new file to either folder, and it should appear in both.

        OK, gotcha. That makes sense, I guess. I'm not sure why the would do both that way, but as long as I know that's the way it works, that's all that matters.

        Thanks for the information.

          @bfollowell in america it was the genesis, and in europe/japan it was the megadrive, so by doing the symlink we make it intuitive for all :)

            @bfollowell Just for similar cases in the future, you can see where a symlink leads to with this command in Retropie's console (aka shell) that you land in if you press F4 in Emulation Station:

            ls -l /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/genesis

            (Both l are lowercase L. The ls means "list" and the -l means "long listing format" – try the command with and without it on /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/ and you'll see. 🤓)

            To return to Emulation Station, enter the command exit.

              Will do.

              Oh, and thanks for letting me know I can go back to emulationstation by typing exit. I've been typing emulationstation each time!

              Thanks guys!

                @bfollowell Since you were hunting for the Genesis folder, I assume you grew up with a Genesis like me (well, I didn't ever own one, but my friends did). In case you didn't know, you can change the ES Megadrive logo to a Genesis logo. Just follow the link @dankcushions linked and scroll to the bottom to see a quick and easy way to do it.

                Glad you got the folder concern figured out.

                  @KN4THX

                  Thank you for that help. I never had a Genesis either, but that is what I know the machine as. I would definitely prefer to have the menu title say Genesis.
