      What is the MAME ROW?

MAME ROW stands for MAME Random Of the Week. We randomly select an arcade game from the 0.78 MAME Reference Set to play on the week. The idea is to play games we've never played before, interact with other forum members, post hi-scores, share game strategies, fun facts, and (the most important) HAVE FUN!

We're still working things out with the new MAME ROW structure. We will play the winner all next week.

Wow, this seems to be the hardest choice since i follow MAME ROWs.

1942 - The Mother of all Plane-SHMUPs, also very popular back in the times of C64 and other 8-Bit Homecomputers.

        CaD - a great Brawler

Battle Toads - same as CaD and one of the few EA-Arcades ever made.

Metal Slug - gosh, this game series is awesome!

        Contra - a piece of VideoGame-History

I really cant decide - i am excited what the other users will choose ;)

My favorite clone of 1942 is the Williams board (1942w.zip). Most 1942 machines were upgrade kits provided by Romstar. Williams had the license for dedicated 1942 machines. The differences in the Williams version are better level descriptions, and instead of having three "rolls" represented by R's (which is wrong) you get three loops represented by three L's (which is correct).

1942w.zip plays in Final Burn Neo.

All that said, I'm actually voting for Contra, Konami's finest run and gun. 1942 is the very worst of the 19xx games. It's like an early test version of 1943, which actually plays like a completed game.

Hah, my smile got wider and wider while scrolling, seeing every next game and thinking of the odds of this happening. I had to go back to the top to double check that the selection was random and not hand picked.

Cadillacs and Dinosaurs vs Battle Toads vs Metal Slug? Oof, tough choice. BUT...someone's gotta win. The arcade version of Battletoads it is!

And I'm only going to vote once! (which I normally do except for the one time I found out that I could vote more than once on https://www.strawpoll.me.)

I went with Contra on this, but it wasn't an easy choice... Great lineup this time!

Personally I dig Strikers 1945 III by Psikyo. 1942 by Capcom is just so slow in comparison. I know they're different franchises made at different times for different audiences, but I still find 1942 slow. (Since we're putting Arcade and MAME in the same sentence...I'd even recommend Capcom's 1944: The Loop Master which Arcade1Up is bringing back into the limelight.)

1942 is a more classic game though and fondly remembered (even though it does sound shrill).

@obsidianspider excellent game - my friend Ian Cullen has the actual board and is ranked 8th in the world according to TwinGalaxies!

You'll be pleased to hear that none of his skills have transferred to me though, I'm still absolutely rubbish at 1942!

I'll give it a try though.
