@SpudsMcToole have you tried lr-mame2003plus? I believe it's correct with that emulator.

lr-mame2000 - colour strips and artwork but no sound (?)

      It probably needs samples.

@barbudreadmon Nope, don't think so - I've already got the Invaders samples in both /opt/retropie/configs/mame-mame4all/samples and /home/pi/RetroPie/BIOS/mame2000/samples

@quicksilver Just installed and that's VERY weird - the aspect ratio's all shot, the backdrop is SUPER-bright, it can't find samples (they're in /home/pi/RetroPie/BIOS/mame2003-plus/samples) and the only sound effect it plays is the UFO, joystick doesn't work and Tab doesn't bring up the config menu, but will have a play around with it. It's certainly got the colour strips.

@SpudsMcToole I use advancemame for it with all the overlays and it works perfectly with samples and the screen overlays. Even the moonscapes and green bits...

@SpudsMcToole As suggested by @quicksilver Mame 2003 plus runs SI with sound, (samples required), overlay and backdrop. See also here.

At least it was working and you could use the TAB menu to get color/color stripes.
Haven't tested recently so unlikely but maybe something's got broken in newer m2003plus versions.

BTW haven't yet finished the new high res Space Invaders bezel.... still working on restoring Exidy's Venture bezel... seems endless to do.

@rbaker Hmm. I have advmame, updated today, and (at least by default) it has no artwork and the colour stripes are visible, which is rubbish.

Related, this post from @Orionsangel :

Shows realistic bezels w/overlays running retroarch. Note the Space Invaders image below the video. I personally confirm that this is 100% doable on a Raspberry Pi and works/sounds amazing.

@SpudsMcToole You have to acquire the artwork and tweak the cfg files accordingly. I believe that I went here for it.....https://mrdo.mameworld.info/old_artwork.php, note that this was the old artwork that I used at the time circa 2017 in advance mame 1.4 . I have not updated or installed anything since. I built it, got it working and there it remains. There is a thread.....take look here and also here where I posted what I did with the config files if you are interested in trying. I'm not using the bezels and I get this output with scan lines enabled.

@roslof I agree. It can probably be done on retropie. I run space invaders with the mame2016 core via retroarch.
