      What is the MAME ROW?

MAME ROW stands for MAME Random Of the Week. We randomly select an arcade game from the 0.78 MAME Reference Set to play on the week. The idea is to play games we've never played before, interact with other forum members, post hi-scores, share game strategies, fun facts, and (the most important) HAVE FUN!

We're still working things out with the new MAME ROW structure. We will play the winner all next week.

Under Fire looks just like Lethal Enforcers on the Genesis/MegaDrive.

Guts'n is really choppy on a 3B, I might have to run that one on the laptop. Also, some language barrier going on with that one.

System Config: Retropie 4.4 with full desktop, RPi 3B, 256gb SD, 5v 2.1A 5,200 mAH USB battery. EasyMSX controller mounted with Pimoroni Hyperpixel 4 (non touch). Also running 4.6 on a 4gb Pi 4 serving as my primary desktop computer now.

Vs. Battle City is a lot like Tank Force.

Galmedes is getting my vote, I really like how you can keep all your powerups and select what fire mode you want. I don't appear to be very good at it yet though...

The tough thing about Galmedes is the ship explosions are so large they obscure enemy bullets.

I also like the approach of having the weapons as a sort of shield. I think the SNES game Axelay does the same concept btw.. A note about the score and continue system, a continue will not reset the position in level and your score continues too. That's a bit odd, because usually in other games a continue will reset the score too. This is a really bad decision from design standpoint, because that means (back in the day) those with more money was rewarded with a better score.

@thelostsoul Using the weapon as a shield is the key to beating Forgotten Worlds too. I agree that not resetting the score on continue is cheese.

I have the same problem with Giga Wing. All those stupid medals clutter the screen and by the time you pick out what can kill you from the stuff you are supposed to grab, you're already dead...

@VictimRLSH There is a lot of stuff on screen at times in Giga Wing, but "gold is good" and "blue and red are bad". Don't try to get everything.

Ok, here is a start. I still lose very easily and the enemies are shooting fast. In case you didn't know, you can hold the fire button to charge to release a big special attack, different for each weapon. I think you can do that indefinitely, but the trade off is that you can't shoot while charging. My score isn't impressive by any means, so I hope you have something to beat now. :-)
Note: Keep in mind, the score will not reset after a continue, so you have to wait until countdown is expired or just restart the game from emulator menu.

                            Score: 22000

If I play on a big screen it is less of a problem because everything is easier to see, that only happens a lot on the handheld. I know the medals are just score multipliers, but THE SHINY...

Not a world record, but a small improvement. The game is hard as hell and I am not in top form.
Info, which probably nobody cares: Btw, funny I misspelled my initials. Didn't realize the v was a u, which also directly follows it in alphabetical. I missed the option to go back to correct it, which some games have.

That's a good score, considering I cannot get past 22500. The game is difficult, but it's interesting - the music is nice and the graphics too. Reminds me of Blazing Lasers a bit.

@mitu Yes, I like the overall game feeling and the weapons mechanic gives it a little bit of a twist. You really need to spam a lot with charging and always move around.

@VictimRLSH LOL I looked up what "necroposting" means and this is the definition I found:

Posting to something on the internet for the first time in quite a few months or years. Usually n00bs do this, but sometimes a pro will do it to make people laugh.

I saw some of your postings, where you dig into older games. Should start doing this too, so people have a good laugh.
Edit: The only "problem" with this approach I see here is, that the current game will have less focus and go down in the list. What about pinning the current weeks played main game?
