Pi Model or other hardware: Raspberry Pi Model B Rev 2
Power Supply used: 2.1A USB from mains?
      RetroPie Version Used: 4.5.1
Built From: Pre made SD Image on RetroPie website
      USB Devices connected: PS4 controller
      Controller used: PS4
      Error messages received: None
      Log found in /dev/shm/runcommand.log: https://pastebin.com/raw/TyPzwy4c
      Guide used: https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/Playstation-1
      Emulator: lr-pcsx-rearmed
      How to replicate the problem:

#1. Download Driver rom to ~/RetroPie/roms/psx

      -rw-r--r-- 1 pi pi 773 Jan 10 2004 Driver [SLUS-00842].ccd
      -rw-r--r-- 1 pi pi 83 Feb 2 2005 Driver [SLUS-00842].cue
      -rw-r--r-- 1 pi pi 747030480 Jan 10 2004 Driver [SLUS-00842].img
      -rw-r--r-- 1 pi pi 131072 Jan 24 18:59 Driver [SLUS-00842].srm
      -rw-r--r-- 1 pi pi 30491040 Jan 10 2004 Driver [SLUS-00842].sub

#2. Place BIOS in ~/RetroPie/roms/psx (~/RetroPie/BIOS not detected, uses HLE)
      924e392ed05558ffdb115408c263dccf ps-22a.bin --> scph1001.bin

      #3. Play Driver

Sound and video unplayably jitteryness. Not sure what the technical term is. Lags all over.

Also tried Ridge Racer Type 4

Is This is a first generation pi? If I’m reading right. If so, psx will be laggy if you are using the lr-Pcsx emulator. The pi 1 does not have the power to run psx games at full speed. You might have some luck if you use the regular, non lr version of pcsx, as there is less overhead on that version.
But to get decent psx emulation speed, you need at least a pi2. A pi3 or 3b+ would be ideal. Never encountered a speed issue on my pi3s with psx games.

Try to lower down the RetroArch render res to 320x240, you can do this from the Runcommand Launch Menu https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/Runcommand.

Also, disable the vertical sync(if it is enable). This option is available in the RetroArch menu.

My English isn't at a good level.

@lostless you know what, I think I read output with a hint of wishful thinking...

It reads something like "Model B New version 2.0" (I haven't got it wired up right now to be sure)...

I'm up for the effort but perhaps not this. I may find something else for my old Pi to do and consider buying a newer model. As I don't have great affinity with the older consoles and PS1 was my first, it's those games I'd like to relive.

Through this experience, I found getting it to work is more interesting than the games themselves :-)

Welcome to the club. From what I read in this forum, most of us spend more time tinkering than actually playing. :D

I tried psx on an rpi4b and it seems to work pretty well.

If your pi looks like this, it’s a pi1
